I love the hire. If anybody thinks LSU only rushed a 4 man front on passing downs your still wet behind the ears. We blitzed linebackers and safeties from every angle possible. Laron Landry damn near killed several QB’s blitzing right up the pipe with a 15 yard runnin start. Highsmith blits from his OLB spot on most passing situations. Pellini’s defenses took on his personality , played mad and nasty. Opposing QB’s better tighten their chin strap and bite down on their mouthpiece. Bo Knows Defense!

didnt say he'd be chewing on players

Defense is about Attitude as much as anything, I want an intense coach that can bring that

I don't feel we had enough edge in areas like pass rush. Bo will bring that

Glad to see the Rant hasn't changed its colors. It's those same people that said we hired a shrimp boat captain that are going to eat their words again with Pelini. They never learn.

i think the Joe Brady hire gave people the impression that there are young innovative guys just waiting for the phone call.

If you have the opportunity to hire a 52 year old elite DC with a LOT of experience....you dont take chances on young guys with little experience.

its a no brainer

Football dinosaur, not age dinosaur. This is not good. Who else was hiring him? Who else would throw that kind of money at him? Why not bring in an up-and-comer? Just a puzzling hire.

Orgeron just gave us the greatest college football team of all time. He can do whatever he wants. Literally whatever he wants. Don’t give a frick. Don’t care what BP is getting paid. Don’t care if he would have hired a fricking wet sock at $5M/year.

Lol at any of you questioning anything he does at this point.

Much like E, it's another hire that would only happen under O.

Wrong-O! Bo Pelini is a highly respected DC.

Dave Aranda had NEVER roamed an SEC sideline, and neither had Joe Brady.

Bull fricking shite... man our fans are dumb. Aranda was one of the best in the business. Especially against stopping spread offenses.. you think a guy who was good back in 2007 means ANYTHING now... Hell no. you just think he's gonna come in and be better than Aranda My god.

Settle down, sparky.

I think our defensive rankings will be on par with the last several years. It's not like we were top 5 and it's a ridiculous supposition.

I’ve truly never felt more impartial about a hire in my life. Was he an accomplished DC in the past, yes. Would he have been on the forefront of other SEC or FBS schools, maybe.

Not a bad hire by any means, just an odd time to bring someone back that has been away from the program for nearly 13 years.

We’ll see how it plays out.

That's a fairly accurate description of how I feel. If we were gonna bring a guy back, my first choice is still an SEC head coach. Otherwise, I'm good with the hire but nowhere near the excitement I had when Aranda was hired.

Brent Venables makes 2.2
Jeremy Pruitt only made 1.3 at Bama

Both have won a NC. What did Bo win?

Let's apply this logic to players. Rashard Lawrence won a national championship What did Chase Young win? Shouldn't Rashard make more in the NFL then?

You know,... for that much money, I think he's gonna bring FIRE defensively!!

Great Hire.

All these people going crazy over a passing game coordinator I find hilarious. Nobody wants to give Ensminger any credit last year.

Matt Rhule must have plucked the wrong guy.

As long as Raymond continues to recruit shut down CBs, Bo is fine.

Aranda was young and innovative. He also ran a scheme Orgeron apparently doesn’t want in a 3-4. That removes Jim Leonard who I thought would’ve been an excellent hire.

Robinson, from those in the know didn’t want to recruit and he would’ve been right back in the nfl after a good season.

Chizik was potentially the only other slam dunk hire.

I personally think O went with Bo because he gets someone that would be here long term a la Venables and Steele. Hopefully he pans out to give us a some top 10 defenses again.

The positive I take in all of this is we retained Raymond and Busch. Bo I’m assuming will be linerbackers coach with Bill Johnson as D line still.

I feel like Bo has a championship under his belt as a DC as well, but my memory is foggy.

I used to see Bo at all the burger joints and dive restaurants around town when he lived here. I feel like every time I went somewhere in the off season I ran into him. Maybe he came back for the food.
