Good timing. Obviously, the number will still be used.

While not "retired" yet, I don't see a No. 9 on the roster...I wonder if anyone has requested it since 2019...

Retiring a number is useless if it's still going to be worn.

LSU should issue a statement and issue the number 9 and state we don't retire numbers we will evaluate retiring the jersey at a later point in time.

Brian Kelly's response to this being that JD5 wasn't onboard during the recruitment when Pickett was promised the number is making me more annoyed by this...giving a number doesn't disrespect you or what you did....my Goodness this is such a petty, whiny, entitled, and spoiled look.

They're not retiring the number. They're retiring the jersey, so I guess that means nobody with the last name Jones can wear 7.

Disagree. It’s a way to respect the player while also not losing numbers along the way. These guys were great tigers and deserve their time in the spotlight. Now maybe we don’t “retire” the jersey but certainly hang it in the rafters.

LSU shouldn’t have to issue any statement. This was brought forth by Jayden’s momma.

No player is going to ask for 9 because they seem to know better. It took a 5 star 18 months to ask for 5. That shows what reverence is held for Burrow vs Daniels.

By LSU logic, I retired 10 years ago

I keep reading that this is his mom. Has this been confirmed? Could this could very well be him too

LSU playing catch up to get to Burrow

You would have to think Hodson should get the Bert Jones treatment at some point

"No LSU football player has worn the No. 9 jersey since Joe Burrow's historic 2019 championship season!"

I'm not saying they SHOULD based on requirement. I'm saying I think they should just to generate a policy on what they do with numbers. I agree this is JD5 and his mother. And based on Brian Kelly's response I have a different opinion now on Jayden's involvement. Which makes it worse in my opinion. But LSU still needs a policy and stick to it.

You don’t know this, but I would think that without promises to the contrary, that LSU would not issue the numbers out of respect. When he was promised during his recruitment, Daniel’s had not won the Heisman. So, it was a perfect storm of timing. The debris for this is just washing ashore now.

She’s his agent and already has proven to be a helicopter parent in relation to his personal life.

Any NORMAL male wouldn’t give 2 turds if someone else wore the number they wore in school.

What matters is what JD did at LSU, not what number he wore.

It’s such a weird distinction.

were “retiring” his “jersey” but not his number but we denote this by putting his number on tiger stadiums

it’s a ring of honor by any other name.
