I’m not arguing Ben’s skills at all.. he’s a great player already. But he’d be so much easier to cheer for if he wasn’t such a dick.

BS was willing to play out of position to help his team. He played for a coach that had absolutely no clue how to develop him... and he never complained.

But somehow, he's the dick?

If you’re talking about his time at LSU he didn’t give a damn where he played. He was just passing the time until the draft. Dude was one of two players EVER to have such bad grades he wasn’t even eligible for POY.

And now that he’s in the league he can’t give credit to any other rookies? Most people wouldn’t pick themselves as ROY even if they thought it was the case. And he said he wasn’t impressed by any other rookies. Dude thinks his shite doesn’t stink.

I hope you are implying that 80s defense was horrific.

Because it absolutely was. It was literally stand around and watch defense

Depends. I say one of if not the best defensive teams to play in the Pistons won solely on defense. Dumars was a premiere defender as was Rodman (yeah go watch him against Shaq even and Shaq hated playing him bc of his strength) and then Thomas and others defended and ran.

All these baskets inside didn’t happen because of the bigs like Jabbar and all the other bigs. Of course the “no zone defense” was enforced then.
Did you even watch inside play? Rebounding?

Bird is 6’9” and would light asses up on 3’s and still grad 10 rebounds a game. Simmons wishes he had his game defensively, shooting and rebounding.

No way...Magic could take over a game, Simmons doesn't have that kind of talent.

Are you comparing Rookie Simmons to Rookie Magic? Because if you are Simmons has shown just as much ability to take over games

If you are comparing 20 year old Rookie Simmons to 28 year old veteran Magic, then sure he isnt there yet

I think if you had Simmons play for a real coach in Heathcoate at Mich. St, then dropped into a Laker situation with Kareem and co., then have Magic play for that trainwreck Johnny Jones, then dropped into a completely rebuiding 76er squad, you might appreciate more what Simmons has done.
I personally think the best NBA player I have seen (been watching since late 70's) is Magic. That being said, Ben has a chance to be greater than that.

Look, I get all the hate for Johnny Jones but I don't care if John Wooden coached LSU in 2015-16. The only person Ben Simmons can blame for not having a jump shot is Ben Simmons. His father played collegiately and professionally in Australia. It's been more than 2 years since he withdrew from LSU to get ready for the NBA and he still can't shoot. How is Johnny Jones to blame for Ben Simmons not being able to make a J?

A qualified coach would realize Ben can't shoot outside of the paint and use his strengths like qbing the team, driving and dishing. (Like Brett Brown 76ers hc is doing). Good coaches coach to their players' strength, not try to force a square peg into a round hole.

I don't know where you read in my post that I said Lebron, Jordan and co. are "garbage". I just happen to believe that Magic is the best player I've seen, and Kareem is a close second. And by the way I am not a Lakers fan except when Shaq played there.

Harden, Westbrook, Curry, Kyrie or Lillard

I'd absolutely take him over Westbrook and Kyrie, dude's a pass-first point-forward whose entire approach to basketball is getting Embiid and the wings involved and creating scoring opportunities, not to mention he's a great rebounder and can penetrate like a wizard, his intelligence about basketball and running a team is so vast that I would entrust leadership to him, everything he does is in the flow of the game, so natural, so fluid, so creative. Once he expands his shooting repertoire, he's gonna be an NBA legend for the ages.

I guarantee that you aren’t old enough to intelligently make that claim even if you graduated from LSU in 87. My guess is you are 30-31 and think you’ve seen it all.
Go back and look at the NBA finals versus the Celts where Magic and Bird averages. They were in a completely different class. Bird with 14 rpg and magic with 14 apg while scoring 27 each.
Hell one of the finals, Magic hit a 12-15’ hook in the lane to win a game.

I will save all the trouble and post the entire game 7 from the Celtics vs Lakers 1984. I have posted and discussed on the MSB multiple times. Myself and others went back and watched a multitude of complete games from the 80s/90s so we could be more knowledgeable in discussing basketball in the different eras. Unfortunately for the nostalgia crowd, video does exist, so we can actually go back and watch those games and not rely on their extremely biased story telling....

1984 game 7 finals complete game

Now that you watch this again, just apologize me for how wrong you were Basketball back then just wasnt the same. The defense is non-existent

That always get me, the defense was non existent, absolute BS if I ever heard it. The defense was brutal in those days, players constantly got hurt, knocked upside the head or worse going to the rim. Lebron would have got undressed back then, for truth he would be crying for a foul. Y'all always get me with that pull up a game from that era off the internet to try and get some ideal of how they played back then. This game here was milder than most, but even in this game you can see how they play more physical and get up on each other, help double team and just play with more intensity. You cannot tell how they played back then from watching shite off the internet, I've said that a few times. Got be from that era and watch it live or on tv.
