I think Duplantis is our best contact hitter period. He puts it in play so much with a good approach (few Ks). I think he’s more likely to get people in scoring position or even RBIs from that spot. And from the left side with his speed, few gidps. Love that kind of hitter there.

Sean Ochinko predicts Duplantis will lead the team in batting average, fwiw.

Dups!
Fun to have some guys returning. Hitting should be solid. Pitching is a little suspect but if Hess and Gilbert can go 7 strong I like our chances.
Now if we could ever find that elusive 3rd starter....

The less Jordan’s in the starting lineup the better for this team. Meaning that some more talented newcomer has stepped up and taken the spot from the placeholder upperclassmen.
The sooner the above happens the better too.
If fairly early in the season, newcomers will have ample time to get experience and we could make a legit run in Omaha.
If late in season, we will likely not make it to Omaha.

Did they both steal your lunch? Bryce is good. Beau will get spot DH starts. Go away.

Yep who needs senior leaders in the lineup. Especially ones with a penchant for getting on base.

Not wanting bryce jordan in the lineup is pretty ignorant.
My bold prediction for this year, im expecting double digit homers from josh smith. Ill set the number at 12. Maybe its just me, but it seemed like he hit one to the warning track every 9 at bats or so last year.

Bryce is not Beau, just stop. He slugged over .400 and was over .400 on base when he last played.

I was going to predict 10-11 as well. More ABs than last year, an additional year of physical development, and that he's going to hit for a higher average than last year will are the reasons I think he'll get to double digits.

Hess and Gilbert both at 70 for arm strength?
I dont remember Gilbert throwing near as hard as Hess last year. I could be wrong but that doesnt make sense to me

Gilbert was throwing mid 90s in the CWS against Oregon St FYI.

Gilbert was touching 96-97 in the post season last year

Im sure its also being considered that as a starter, im not sure hess will be throwing 96-97 like he was out the pen. Probably closer to 93-94....which is closer to gilbert’s average fastball

Also was curious why gilbert is taking the friday role instead of hess. Could be PM giving the first weekend to the more veteran guy like years past. But if its more permanent, then maybe hess hasnt been showing as well in scrimmages

Wow. I didn’t remember Gilbert being such a flame thrower either. Cool.

Probably due to being more of a proven commodity.
Hess performed well as a midweek starter last season (in the times that he was only a starter).
Gilbert's starts have almost all come in tournament play, SEC or NCAA, and he's excelled. Not saying Hess would be fazed by the spotlight, but there is already evidence that Gilbert isn't.

I don’t think either of them are locked into a spot, if Hess stays at Saturday he’s a major advantage in game 2 every week.

Ive been thinking since the end of last year that this years team will take us as far as the starting pitching.
If Hess and Gilbert step up then we're back in omaha. If not then we may not see a super
