So you want a guy who’s wishy washy on if he wants to play for this fine University.

Seems to me he has no pride for LSU. Take the easy road out and “opt out” AKA quit on your teammates 2 weeks left of season.

Then we go and tweet that we’re transferring. Only to not do it yet.

So you think the players on the team really want a dude of this stature?

I think part of the issue was the chemistry with the hires. Specially on defense.

Why would Gilbert need chemistry with defensive coach hires? Much less have such an issue with it that he would leave the team over it?

I don’t care how talented he is. He’s already quit on the team...twice. Let him go. He clearly doesn’t want to be here. Would be awful for locker room morale.

You can’t judge these young men as you would normally. This is a guy living away from home for the first time under Covid restrictions. If you don’t have a child between 13-25 right now, you may not be aware of the alarming jump in mental health issues in this age group due to this years lifestyle changes.

A school resource officer told us last week that suicides / attempted suicides in his school district jumped from 25/semester to 187/semester. Social ties with family and friends are more important in this age group than any other.

I’d love to have him back but only if he can be happy living here and able to focus on doing his best. It won’t work for him or LSU any other way.

Maybe he is waiting to see who will be the OC? Maybe the school he wanted to transfer to had no need for him anymore.

No one knows what he is dealing with. Whatever he decides to do I wish him the best

Locker room cancer gets thrown around a lot here. Can you give an example of 1 player on this team that was a locker room cancer and explain how they divided the team?

Yep! It's not hard to show up fanatics.
Come onArik, don't let clowns influence you. You and Brennan/Johnson/Finley/Nussmeier can be holding up that Trophy in a couple of years. Then you can go to the NFL and break Jefferson's record.

He was an elite prospect, but all that means is that he was a kid having great success (and probably a ton of fun) playing football.

Consider that this year, he was playing well, but-
a) away from home for the first time, away from his family and other support system
b) "normal life" has completely disintegrated this year, can't go out, can't do much of anything
c) team was playing in empty stadiums, and not winning
d) team was losing a lot of it's leadership, with Brennan going down and eventually Marshall opting out

Is it shocking to consider he may have thought "man, this isn't what I want. It isn't what I was sold on, and it all sucks"...?
And now, perhaps, both the coaching staff and his family are both working with him, trying to get him to relax, telling him life isn't going to keep being like this?

I criticized him for quitting and had no problem doing it but wasn't vulgar about it. If he did come back and make peace with the team then so be it. Everyone deserves a second chance.

The cynic in me thinks that it's because a certain OC at a hated rival just left his job...which has caused Gilbert to re-evaluate what he wants to do

Who even gives a shite at this point? Just make a decision be stick with it. Between this shite and the whole Tristan Leigh fiasco I’m tired of kids playing around because they think it’s cute. Just say where you want to play ball, go there shut your mouth and play.

He can go or stay, but I will not think twice nor care if he leaves. There is a point at which you have to put aside the talent and judge the guy by his actions. He quit on his team and he verbally announced his intentions to leave. Why would next year be any different. Wish him the best but it's clear LSU is not his priority.

Wasn’t talking specifically about Gilbert. Just commenting on the locker room in general. I have no idea what Gilbert’s issue is.

Exactly. Add to that, coaches and family might be pointing out to him that life will look much the same - or worse - wherever he goes. Ultimately, he needs to be where he can make himself happy and able to focus. If he’s mature enough to deal with these issues and make that happen at LSU I’d jump in line to support him. If he feels the need to be closer to family and established support group, I wish him the best.

Exactly, if he really has mental issues. He needs his blood family to help him through it. Why would we want to see a kid not happy.. He is a great player, but very few probably know the real reasons...

If he’s willing to put in the work and be a part of the team, of course let him return. If the issue(s) he was having are still there and unaddressed then it is best to move on.

It costs nothing to keep him. We are struggling to get enough scholarships as it is and he doesn’t open anything up by leaving. Its s net loss other than maybe if he was causing chemistry issues, which falls into whether he is addressing or fixed those issues he faced.

In the end, kid has a ton of talent and just needs to get himself straight. Hate on him I’ve everything is finalized.

No head cases when going for a championship.
