lack of talent BY FAR outweighed the bad chemistry.
Wrong. There isn’t an overall lack of talent on the roster. There was one bad recruiting class that hit us hard this year, especially on defense. We ended up with few upperclassmen players who were good enough to be on-field leaders. This showed up most at LB and Safety and we didn’t have the defensive coaching with Pelini to work around it.
There is plenty of talent. The problem is that you aren’t going to win big in the SEC, especially early in seasons, depending on lots of young players in key positions. But that’s where the talent was on this year’s team. And you saw several of those players rise at the end of the season and step up in the last two games. Look at how many really good to great true freshmen made huge contributions in those games. That experience will pay dividends next year.

I don’t care how talented he is. He’s already quit on the team...twice. Let him go. He clearly doesn’t want to be here. Would be awful for locker room morale.
Arik Gilbert moved 8 hours to a town where he really didnt know many people during a COVID year. In the selfish minds of some of the grown men on here, they jump on these kids thinking, "oh they just quit on us because we werent winning so screw them" when in reality, opting out gave the kid a chance to go home and see his mom for the first time since he left home. The kid is probably just homesick. Fans need to have some perspective on how hard this has to be for kids who are away from their parents for the first time in their lives.

Very well stated, excellent post in my lowly opinion.

When I was 19 I was a head case. If he wants to play for the Tigers, I'm all in and will pull for him to be great!
The immaturity of this fan base is showing the dark side of our culture today. They'll try to convince us they've never had issues in their lives. "He's a quitter and a *****". Such shortsightedness and arrogance. Makes me want to vomit.

if he wants to come back and the coaches and team are cool with it, what's the issue? Not ideal at all but nothing about this past season was

We are saying the same thing.
Not enough talent vs. not enough talent that is experienced and developed enough to show it on the field ends in the same spot.
This was a rebuilding year on paper based on our talent.
