Are the LSU faithful setting expectations too high for Brian Kelly?

I feel like we are anointing him the savoir of the LSU program before he has even coached one game. Don't get me wrong, I like what I see so far on how he is conducting himself and how it feels like we finally have a real coach for the first time in over a decade.

I believe he will resurect the LSU program to where it should be, which is being in the hunt for a national championship every year, but let's also remember when Kelly faced the top dogs of the SEC in huge games, the results where not the best for him.

I know we will hear all about Les Miles and Coach O winning championships while at LSU, so if they can do it, then Kelly should too. I just think the expectation of a NC in the next 2 to 3 years maybe a little too high of an expectation.

Of course we are, it’s July. He’s batting 1.000 so far!

I think people are just surprised to see competence. Some here will have outlandish expectations from day one, but anyone with a brain knows the culture here under O was bad and it will take a little time to root that out.

I don’t think it’s crazy to expect him to win us 8-9 games this year at minimum. Anything more is gravy.

It's hard to think that if Les & O can win a title that BK can't

For year one? Yeah probably, I think there will be some growing pains after the lack of anything the previous staff did.

The expectation is to win another National Title. The last 3 coaches have done it so NO, the expectations are not too high.

Not at all as when you ask how many wins you think we will have this year, most are predicting 7-8. Don't judge his ND record in post season vs. Bama. The limitations he had at ND was one of the reasons he left for LSU. I think 'most' posters are keeping everything in proper perspective.

LSU has won Natty with Les Miles and Ed Orgeron

I just Believe that LSU is better suited to win in modern foot all than Norte Dame

Yes. He'll need two years to get his system and players in place. There will be some tough games over the next 2 years.

I don't view him as a savior. There was nothing to save. O just lost focus and got sloppy, many expected he eventually would. I view Kelly as a capable, mature, proven head coach and his first job was cleaning up after a messy tenant. There is zero reason to believe that Kelly would be any less successful than his two predecessors. There is reason to believe that he could be much more successful.

Hes a smarter and better HC than our last 2 HC’s.

Our last 2 HC’s won Natty’s.

Why wouldnt BK?

A Natty for an LSU HC is not ‘too high an expectation’.

Long term, this is going to get corrected.

Year 1, ask me in late august. Will hinge on QB play, settling the OL, and defensive back field.

This team will have great strengths in certain areas that could keep them in every game though.

I believe Brian Kelly will be great this season.

I would not be surprised if LSU contends for a national title this season.

BK can coach, period.

Our last 3 head coaches won National titles and 2 of them were functionally retarded. I’d think a guy with the resume of Brian Kelly should be able to pull it off as well in his time here.

Any reasonable, long time LSU Football fan are hoping for an 7-5 to 8-4 or better season, with competitive losses and marked improvement. This board does not reflect the nature of most LSU fans, you will find, and is a forum for the troll and negative fan, alike. You just have to weed through the BS.

BK sets those expectations on the team and himself as well so I don't really think it's out of line.

Yes which is no different than any other coach in any other program at the university
