They should all wear those in practice of contact is involved. They help cut down head injuries.

There's evidence that they don't even hit anymore. Football has become soccer. You can even watch it in Europe now. I'm switching to rugby

I am not sure of the validity of these helmets, but there has been, starting use last year in HS and some college/pro, another device. It is a strap around the neck that chokes off the carotid artery a minor amount, which minimizes the 'slosh' in a head collision. It has been determined that the 'slosh' is the main cause of a concussion.
This device is in effect now even more than last season. I don't know if LSU has anyone wearing the device, but you might check around their necks, and if you see something as I have described, that's it.
It was invented by an LA man, LSU grad that is a famous nuerosurgeon.

It’s all for preventive measure and also less wear and tear on the helmet itself since players rotate between 2-3 helmets per season.

Why would they be forced to wear these?

Not mandatory

My guess is jack marucci has probably asked a couple of players at different positions to wear them to help collect data during practice

I was just reading about this. It actually has NOT been shown to be effective. Some fault the FDA for “clearing” it (not approving). Looks more like junk science and the product of marketing rather than efficacy. I doubt you’ll see very many colleges employing it. It supposedly restricts blood returnfrom the cranial area to create a “cushion”. Pretty dubious!
