How and when should LSU honor these two great Tigers?

I can’t see anything being done specifically for them. Great Tigers, great pro careers. Whit may have outside chance at HOF on longevity alone .

Whatever recognition they are to receive post career or, right now for Whit atleast those two deserve.

I mean if I was anyone that had anything to do with football, its guys like this that are the ones that did it the right way. I mean the NFL brought out Chris Carter and Warren Sapp to talk to the new rookie class and it turned out about as expected.

For two individuals from small town/rural America to be the best in something, as in Top 20 individuals on earth at their selected profession is incredible. But each one did it for 10+ years. But what makes those two even more incredible is to this day they have never changed as people. The definition of a consummate Professional. For a NT or DT to be the leaders and voices for an NFL team speaks volumes about them. Whitworth is a hall of famer but may have to wait because thats how it goes for NFL linemen. Williams is probably hall of very good.

Add Todd McClure to that mix
13yr career the dirty birds center
Owner wants to put him in their ring of honor
Pretty sure him and Whit played together in front of Faulk

What a line

And Cushenberry and Lewis might be talked about that way one day.

McClure and Whitworth never played together at LSU. McClure left in 99, and Whitworth arrived in 01.

Only 4 time Pro Bowl. 2 time AllPro. Certainly not a shoe in.

Faneca 9 Pro bowls. 6 times All Pro

Like I said. Longevity was his greatest trait

Based on the players that have recently got in the HOF, Whitworth definitely has a good chance. They have seemed to take longevity more in to account that they have previously.
He needs to get a super bowl victory to help his cause, that has seemed to get a much larger than deserved advantage to players with rings versus players who don't

I think that both are a long-shot for one reason, and one reason only:

They spent the vast majority of their time in the league playing on some very bad teams in Cincinnati and Buffalo.

I honor them as great Tigers, great representatives for their teams and cities, and great models for what a professional team-sports athlete should be.

But, I'm not sure those things will be honored by the NFL HOF.

Whitworth could also help his cause if he wins the league level Walter Payton Man of the Year award.

I'll preface by saying they are outstanding pro football players and individuals and both will get HOF votes. Faneca was 6 times All Pro and waited six years to get in. 2 All Pros won't get him in. Sorry, it just won't. But as some have said, longevity might. His last few years in LA will help tremendously along with his TV interviews where he is fantastic.

I really hope Whitworth gets in but it's far from a lock.

If he'd gone to Auburn, would you think he was a HOFer?

The only reason he’s not a first ballot HOF is if it’s a loaded class.

Cincinnati went to the playoffs 6 times in Whitworth's 11 seasons there. How does that equate to the vast majority of his time being on very bad teams?

I would love to have these two at some point coaching the offensive and defensive linemen at LSU. Two proven technicians with a terrific work ethic. Williams is already coaching HS ball at Ruston HS.

They would be invaluable in communicating to today's young athletes on what it takes to be successful and have a long career in the National Football League.

Whitworth isn’t going to the hall of fame. Come on now.
