In 18 years at OM 1 trip to Omaha, in 4 years as a player 1 trip to Omaha. This former player returning to coach has not been kind to LSU. Jones, Stoval are prime examples.

Shame on you for dogging a former great player at LSU. You don’t even know if his name is being considered for head coach. I take the approach in that I am happy for this man to have the level of success that he has. Yeah he would not be my first choice for sure, but I am not going to immaturely dog the man.

No not great as a player but he represented LSU well and still does today. And what I mean by that he sends his son to LSU to play for LSU. Bianco is not my choice for head coach but he was one of the first tiger players to to help get this program off the ground and has been a supporter sense. That’s my point why dog a former player.

Because he’s a coach at an SEC West rival and he’s being dogged for his lack of success in that capacity which makes him unfit to lead LSUs program.

While MSU has a longer history of baseball success, let's not act like Ole Miss is "resource deprived" in 2021. Nationwide VERY few schools in the country give much of a shite about college baseball. Ole Miss is ABSOULTELY one of those schools that does. As such, they have been willing to commit significant resources (relative to college baseball as a whole) to the program. Hell, Ole Miss in the top 4 of attendance every year.

This is absolutely true. How much credit should Bianco get for that? Much of it if not most of it.

As I have said previously, I would not be displeased by Bianco as the new coach but I am not certain he would be the best choice. I just get tired of folks acting like he is successful because of Ole miss as opposed to Ole miss being successful because of Bianco.

quote:

This isn't football. The resource gap between OM baseball and LSU baseball is pretty small. Which is why it makes little sense to say "well, look at what he's done at poor Ole Miss. Imagine what he could do at LSU?!" That is a reasonable argument in football. Not baseball.

I think it is probably reasonable to say the he has been very close to several trips to the CWS. That small difference could mean a trip vs not a trip. Or not, we can only speculate.

quote:

There are no financial inequities keeping Ole Miss from being every bit as good year to year as any of the other top SEC teams. The reality is that while they have been good under Bianco, they haven't been great. "Why" is probably multi-factored. But I think it is ridiculous to say it is Ole Miss that is holding Bianco back. And I think it is equally ridiculous to think that just because he's at LSU he would be able to accomplish things he hasn't in 20 years at Ole Miss.

He has been at Ole miss for 20 years but what you are saying, in terms of the baseball program, has not been true for 20 years. He has been competitive at a school that really wasn't prior to his arrival.

I do think he could do as well as Paul has done and possibly better. I don't think it is ridiculous to think he could do things at LSU that he hasn't at Ole Miss, I do think it is unrealistic to expect that to happen immediately though, with any coach really. it can, but it rarely does.

quote:

But to act like he is a "superstar" just being held back by little Ole Miss is dumb.

I do think we totally agree on this and I hope what I posted did not imply that. I was simply trying to say that Ole Miss benefitted from Bianco more than Bianco benefitted from Ole Miss when his career there is looked at as a whole.

For whatever reason, I personally like Vitello but can't really give you great reasons for that. Good old irrational sports mentality kicking in on that one I think

Nobody said they were a bad team. All anyone is saying is that we get either here or to a regional and choke to death.

You are absolutely correct, we are not horrible. In fact, we are pretty damn good.

But pretty damn good is not good enough for some of us. We want more. You can be satisfied with 1 for 21. I’m not. You said we aren’t horrible. That’s true. It’s also true we aren’t elite. It’s time to get somebody in here that can finally get us over the hump, because it’s quite apparent that Mike Bianco can’t.

AZ has 4 NCs, and have a chance to win another and they don’t even care about baseball. It’s our bread and butter and we pour money into it and fans support it and we can’t get out of a Super if we can even get out of a regional. Why?

quote:

hat is the excuse for our 1-7 super regional performance, includng that disaster tonite, and pretty much every game 3. What is the reason that in the past 20 YEARS we have been to Omaha once, much less ever thought about winning? What is the reason we are 3-16 versus state If NONE of it is bianco related? Please share with us the reason for this miserable past performance so it can be identified and then we can fix it.

Per the below article, Ole Miss has the 4th highest spending/resources in all of the country. Their results have not been remotely close to 4th overall in the country. Many schools (including several in the SEC) have achieved far more with less resources.

Just throwing this out there for some recruiting context …a buddy of mine ranked all the teams over the weekend based on their average recruiting class of the last 5 years…I didn’t verify the numbers, but he told me:

1. Vanderbilt
2. Arkansas
3. LSU
5. Tennessee
10. Ole Miss
12. Louisville
45. East Carolina

If anyone is interested in seeing the full list, I can get him to email it to me

that is quite damning to the Bianco camp that claims he'd be so much better with our resources

Yes we play in a tough conference, but Mike still isn't getting results against teams they out resource in regional and super regional play
