we are favored to win 9 games how are we not in the pre season top 25 poll?

Because the FPI metric isn't used for rankings.

I'm just passing along what I heard on AFR. No shite we're going to 'let it play out.'

I understand, but I'm merely saying that all these preseason predictions and opinions are worthless. Nobody knows anything at this point, so there's no sense even paying attention to any of the noise.

We'll all know more, about every team, in November.

What makes you say this?
Jimbo has won a championship.
He’s great as a Qb coach.

You can not like Jimbo or think aTm isn’t going to be good this year.
But you’re gonna have to explain the step change in coaching ability other than being a homer.
Jimbo runs an offense with no motions or window dressings. He plays head up ball and s4ubbornly refuses to change. When he won it in 2013, that team was loaded with talent and Winston was the QB. and he hasn't come close to winning even a conference championship since Winston left.

You'll see soon enough once Kelly gets these next 2 classes in. Kelly will run circles around Jimbo in the future.

Can you explain to me how the hell Jimbo lost to one of the worst LSU teams in decades?
How did Saban almost lose at home to the same LSU team?
Maybe LSU wasn't as bad as everyone thinks they were.

Close loss to auburn, Close loss to Arky in OT. Close loss to Bama.
Beat aTm, Beat Florida, Beat Ms St.
They did get blown out by Kentucky, Ole Miss, and the sissy blue shirts.
LSU was bad by LSU standards, but a really bad team doesn't have a chance to win the game at the goal line vs bama.

For aTm, Jimbo was starting Calzada. To put that in perspective, he couldn't wait to upgrade to Max Johnson.
Haynes King got injured vs Colorado in the 2nd game, and it took a while for Calzada to come along.
And he was able to scheme his way to a win over Bama.
So, let's not pretend that it's a moot point that since he lost to LSU he can't coach.

*to be fair, last year's bama team was, well, not their usual elite self.
2 point win vs UF, loss to aTm, close win vs LSU, 1 score game vs Arky, and 2pt OT win vs Auburn.

It's not as easy as just a one game referendum.

Calzada effect for last season. But, the point is well taken. He wants to run pro-style.
I do see him using different route concepts, especially with the TE.
But without a dual threat qb, you are severely limited by your QB's processing ability.

As for why stay with the pro-style.
He might be gambling on a rock paper scissors approach. When everyone faces the spread every week, they build their team with a smaller back 7.
Not as mundane as the triple option, but similar in theory of creating personnel mismatches.

Over the last 5 seasons, Brian Kelly won every single game that he coached where his team was the favorite in the preseason FPI except for one - Cincinnati last year.

In 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020 Kelly was undefeated against teams that FPI said he should beat.

Not to be a downer, but FPI had LSU ranked 3rd after 2019.

It had LSU ranked 3rd at the end of the 2019 season, and while I think its clear that LSU was the best team, the system was not set up to recognize just how good Joe Burrow was.

After the 2019 season it had LSU ranked 12th, which is a pretty big drop, and that was before some opt-outs.

Tennessee is the sexy new pezzonovante in the SEC. And they have a bye week while LSU has to play at Auburn, always a tough assignment.

The fpi heavily weights home games. I wouldn’t put any stock into what fpi says. Vegas has us favored in game 1 against the Noles so we’ll be favored in every game up til Auburn. They’re picked to finish last in the SECw so I imagine by the time that game rolls around LSU will be favored to win that game too.
