I’m not surprised. We lost basically half of our starters in the first few weeks last season, add in the general chaos and attrition around the program, we were 1-2 plays going different from beating Arkansas and Auburn last season, and going 8-4. Not to mention the Alabama game which we were in till the end.

Even though it counts on the record, that bowl game was a farce and has a huge asterisk by it.

We're favored in Fayetteville? That's kinda surprising
Not to me. Regardless of whatever the Hogs expect, they're still Arkansas.

So, still no reason other than opinion.

Recruiting, not x's and o's.
Plus, FSU has shite facilities versus the major SEC/Big 10 programs, which plays a part as well.

So, once again....

You realize it doesn't matter how good Auburn is it's usually hard for us to win over there? They typically push a good game even when they suck. That was the team that was closest to beating us in 2019 if you don't remember. Historically they play us hard.

Jimbo may have been a really good QB coach at one time but I don't think he is anymore. The game seems like it's starting to pass him by and he doesn't evolve with the times. He has struggled with his offenses at TAMU and he also hasn't done a good job developing QBs over there. He took fricking Max Johnson from us. Anyone with eyes can see that kid doesn't have a ceiling he's topped out in the SEC and he's currently struggling over there big surprise.

His problem is likely more offensive philosophy related than QB coaching. It's how he coaches them in his system that's giving them problems at TAMU. His offense is his entire problem and he refuses to evolve. Even Saban realized he had to.

Excellent rebuttal with a valid explanation.
That's all I wanted, but it's hard to get that around here sometimes.

I think jimbo has been limited in his choices, but he did make kellen Mond a half arse decent qb.
And has beaten lsu, while having inferior talent. You gotta be able to be a decent coach if you win with worse players.

As of right now, polls seem to be pretty high on him. We'll all see what he can do with the open checkbook and top talent. Maybe the times have passed him by.

You can not like Jimbo or think aTm isn’t going to be good this year.
But you’re gonna have to explain the step change in coaching ability other than being a homer.

Can you explain to me how the hell Jimbo lost to one of the worst LSU teams in decades? A depleted LSU roster, a lame duck coach, a staff that was looking elsewhere, yet Jimbo couldn't COACH his team to a victory.

Not to be a downer, but FPI had LSU ranked 3rd after 2019.

My prediction is 7-0 going into Ole Miss.

It’s possible. But we have to win the Florida State game to get the season off to the right start. Slip up there, and there’s a possibility State comes to a Baton Rouge and pulls off the upset a couple week later and we’re looking at a 2-2 start. I think if we’re good enough to beat FSU in our 1st game out the gate, it means things have come together quickly, and it should just get more fine-tuned Week 2 and give us more confidence after thumping Southern and be ready to handle State Week 3 in Tiger Stadium.

That State game could be tricky. It’s a Leach offense with a good QB coming back, so we’re gonna have to be gelling enough on offense to be able to put up some points, because they’re gonna score. Speaking of gelling, part of the season is gonna depend on how fast the secondary gels and learns how to play and communicate together. The guys we’ll be counting on haven’t played much together, and that matters. That game’s at 5 o’clock in Baton Rouge, so we should be able to wear them down eventually. I expect Matt House to put us in position for a couple of picks, too.

But I think so much depends on that Florida State game. With all new coaches, unless there’s a rash of injuries (which is 1 reason why I think it’s important to beat FSU—we should be our healthiest going into that game), we should get significantly better over the course of the season. We’ll be better late October than we are the 1st week of September. But the competition gets much better, to, so even though we might be better later, it may not manifest itself in wins. So if we can navigate FSU and use it as a springboard to beat Southern, State, and New Mexico and start off 4-0 without likely having played our best yet, that will put us in a position to be able to have a really nice season, relative to expectations.

Next 3 games @ Auburn, Tennessee at home, and @ Florida. Split the road games (which are always tough, no matter the season they’re having) and beat Tennessee at home, then we’re 6-1 going into the 5 game gauntlet to end the season starting with Ole Miss at home. You predict 7-0, but I think that’s a little ambitious. I’d take 6-1 if you gave it to me now. But so much depends on that FSU game.

If we are favored to win 9 games how are we not in the pre season top 25 poll?

It’s not terrible for preseason projections but once games start to be played it needs to be thrown out the window.
