An NIT and 4 NCAA tournament appearances in the first 5 years at the helm. This consistency at LSU men's basketball may not happen again in the next 20 or 30 years. The last time it happened was in the 80's and early 90's with Brown.
If this is not a successful stint as an LSU basketball coach, people are delusional and biased against a coach due to other concerns.
Just win baby!!

Weathering a bad PR storm from bringing Wade back trumps trying to revive a soon to be dead program and its fan base after the ensuing damage has already been done.
You can revive a dead program in 1-2 years these days. Ask Mulkey.

Wade is not coming back, so it is time to let that go. However, for the sake of discussion, if there was even a slight consideration of hiring Wade back, the reality is there is a BETTER coach looking for a job right now. A coach that has played for a National Championship. That's Chris Beard.
Unlike Wade, his "troubles" have nothing to do with basketball or the NCAA. Texas is not going to be hit with any type of penalty because of Beard's actions. More importantly, neither will the school that ultimately hires him next. Beard's issues are a domestic issue with his girlfriend that is likely to be dismissed at some point (She's already publicly admitted to being the instigator of the matter and wants the charges dismissed).
I like Wade. But I would trade him for Beard in a second. Beard has proven his worth as a coach at multiple schools (UALR, Texas Tech, Texas). He was making big money, in a big time program, at his alma mater. He should have NEVER hit the open market. However, Texas made the choice to fire him.
There would be much virtue-signaling and histrionics by people who ARE NOT LSU basketball fans were he hired. But if you are willing to weather the initial PR storm from those useless blowhards who can NEVER be satisfied, you will end up with a legitimate championship level coach....not just one who might get their some day.
Even if he improves next season (and, at this point that would be a very low bar to meet) does even the most ardent of McMahon backers think he could one day be a national championship contending coach? Of course not. But one of those guys IS there now for the taking...if you (i.e. Woodward) is willing to seize the opportunity.
You like to fancy yourself as a "big name" hunter. Well here is a big name desperate to be hired. One that wasn't available last March, and one that likely won't be available next March (at least to LSU)
Fortune favors the bold

Is this metric also okay for baseball? If not, why are we okay with different standards?

Because we have 6 CWS titles. We have wine a championship in baseball as many times as we have been to the elite 8 in basketball.
We have been to Omaha (final 8)
We’ve made the NCAA tournament in baseball 33 out of the last 36 Tournament.
Hold an LSU basketball coach to LSU Baseball standards and you’ll be firing a lot of coaches.

Problem is Scott is scared of mean tweets. If he was really doing the best for LSU he would have beard in his office the day the charges drop.

Please save LSU basketball and remedy this situation before it is too late. If rumblings are accurate and Wade is cleared by the NCAA, rehire him before someone else does.
He would never. Same reason GM's dont cut ties with bad high round draft picks. Cant admit you were wrong, even if indirectly

The NCAA stuff was a convenient excuse for Woodward to fire Wade and hire his own guy. He may have also cut a deal to keep the football program from getting hammered if he fired Wade.
I’m not saying I think Wade needed to be fired or should have been fired. I wish Wade was still here. But an AD like Woodward surely wanted his own basketball coach. He couldn’t fire Wade as long as he kept getting to the NCAA tournament. The NCAA stuff provided the opening.

Sure it was a successful (not great) stint at LSU, but you’re replying to a post that’s discrediting the comparison of Will Wade and Bruce Pearl. Pearl had Tennessee playing on the 2nd weekend of the NCAA tournament multiple times at Tennessee and had a long track record of great coaching. People forget that outside of a few seasons Tennessee had been a pretty bad basketball program for 20 years before Pearl got there. Pearl had season of 31, 28 & 24 wins. Wade had one season with 25 wins.
As far as SEC coaches go Musselman, Oats, Barnes, Pearl and Calipari are all much better than Wade. The jury is still out on some of the others.
Complaining about this years coaching, go for it. Still crying over Will Wade is just pathetic.

If Wade is fully cleared by LSU, I would 100 percent support him being brought back.
I don't see any way that happens.

He’s not gonna be cleared. He may not be sanctioned but it’ll be more like OJ being “cleared” of killing Nicole.

Lol is he? Brian Kelly got a kid killed and Mulkey isn’t exactly uncontroversial.
Just can’t hire an actual woman beater.

LSU fans, donors, athletic department, and administration don't care enough about men's basketball success to do what it takes to be a consistent winner. To bring forth a phrase that I have heard about football, there is not complete "alignment" behind men's basketball, IMO.
Examples: Basketball facilities that are among the worst in the SEC. (PMAC as well as the practice facility).
Hiring an unproven mid major coach instead of someone with experience and success at the power 5 level.
Nepotism in hiring practices (Johnny Jones).
If the administration doesn't really care that much about making the sport a winner, it is really hard for the basketball diehard, much less the average fan to care that much.

Start the process going forward...put up a 100K towards the buyout.

Scott had no choice but to fire Wade. He protected LSU, that's his job. The football program was in danger as well.
