re: A 14-team league is too large to determine a true league champion.

We have 2 trash fcs games every year. Sometimes 3.
Yet we’re able to still determine a champion
And honestly - conference championships aren’t going to mean dick as the playoffs get bigger and bigger

This makes absolutely no sense at all.
OK, then name me who the "true champion" should have been each season since we expanded to 14 teams and give me an argument and reason why.

Super conferences are inevitable.
I would imagine there will be 4 super conferences at some point. If that happens the whole idea of an expended playoff goes out the window. Those conferences won't given a shite about these small school getting into the playoff.
Each conference will probably have the best 4 teams play in a semi and conference final.
Then each conference winner move on to a 4 team playoff.

Who cares who is the SEC champion. What matters is the national champion.

Is there a lawn you would like me to get off of?

So you don’t believe the College Basketball Championship yields a true champion from a 64 team field? Or any conference that determines their champion via tournament, including SEC baseball or NCAA baseball championship? It seems you are making the point that the conference champion has to be determined by non-playoff records only? Seems regressive, but just an opinion.

So you’re saying we dont have a true SEC champ every year? Wtf?
I’ll comfortable with 16 for the simple reason that we will get no less than 2 teams in every year going forward. NO ONE can argue we’re the best

Not ‘league champion’.
National Champion.
The SEC needs to add UT and OU and then break off from the NCAA and be their own everything.
With 16 members schools, they’d be no need to play non-SEC schools ever again in any sports.

With every team you add to the conference, you're having the conference championship decided less on the field.

It's no different than the NFL

What year has there been an issue with a "true champion" not winning the SEC? 2011 is the only year anyone could argue.

Another dumb take. Suk it up cupcake they comin

But over the long haul, the issue should be decided on the field; and when one team cannot play almost half the teams in its own league, by definition, you are not deciding the championship on the field.
But you have a championship game from 2 teams that played over half the league each.
Do you think 8 teams is too many to determine the best in a division?

Nothing really matters to me !

So 16 would water down the ability to determine a legitimate league champion even more.
If only there was a sure fire way to have the two teams with the best records play each other to determine by contest who the true champion is.

Don't even need to go that far. A 14 team conference is just too big anyway. Twelve teams was acceptable. Going back to ten teams would be even better.
Don't add any more teams. Just put Arky, Mizzou, A&M, and SC in a hat and draw two teams to keep so we can at least get back to twelve teams. Or just tell Mizzou and A&M to call up Texas and Okie and start their own conference.

There was no way the SEC teams who have even without Texas, I think 6 of the top 15 brands, are going to let these other teams get into the playoff and only get 2 SEC teams in.
3 or 4 minimum every year, in some years, it will be 5.
And how is this any different with only 14 SEC teams? The top SEC teams each year are always in the top 12 programs to make the playoffs. Adding Texas and OU doesn't add much to the fact that the SEC will be well represented in a 12 team playoff scenario.

Hey Bozo*, you frick around and you find out.
And by "frick around" I mean DON'T let them in.
If you miss the bus of those two teams wanting to come over, the window closes forever and some other Conference grabs them and builds on having them.
They (UT & OU) are natural geographical fits for the SEC and lulz on Sankey, et al at the league office not letting the Aggies know any of this was happening!

Yet a 4-team playoff for a division with 120+ schools is fine?

Just win. It is that simple
