We’ve heard it ever since Chavis was here.

So is it safe to say that “every” coach is guilty of this at LSU?

And then the next question is: is the quip over used or now a hyperbole?

The fact that 3rd down is so important that you automatically remember it for years when your team defense fails and a game loss occurs because of it. Right?

So we can look at third down defense and compare

Chavis
House
Daronte
Aranda
Baker
Etc…..who was best on 3rd?

But the 3rd downs with the game on the line are always remembered.

TLDR:
I would assume every top defensive coordinator had 3rd downs that they regret.

Our fanbase wanting Nick Saban fired and Joe Burrow benched. We are nothing but hyperbole.

Chavis became infamous for his repeated failures. Doing the same thing in the same situation and losing. Kinda like Leslie did.

We still have a collective ptsd from chavis. That’s all. Everyone else gets some unfair blame, though much is often still warranted.

So true. 2019 LSU is generally regarded as the best team ever, easily top 5 for anyone stubborn enough to split hairs.

I don’t have receipts but I’m 100% confident that there were people complaining throughout that whole season.

3rd down is when OCs and QBs, especially runners, show their mettle and prove their worth. Stopping a team on 3rd down is a tough ask.

Chavis 3rd down defense rate

2009- 63%
2010-67%
2011- 68%
2012-68%
2013-67%
2014-67%

So Chavis was really good on 3rd down his entire time here.

It is repeated by idiots here who hear other idiots saying it, because they think it makes them appear cool in front of random, unknown, internet strangers.

All season the Rant said the defense wasn't good enough to win a Natty.

None of that matters. If the number was 99%, you are going to hear it for that 1%. There are a large number of people on here who live to complain about something.

Good post. It highlights how much of the board is made up of irrational idiots. We could win by 30 on Saturday and the board will be bitching the entire game.

House was a terrorist bro. That man cost us a national title and in the same breathe allowed quite possibly the most annoying fanbase on earth to get a natty that year. Michigan fans are the most insufferable bunch there is. I live in Michigan so obviously I am biased but damn you’d think they’ve won more titles than Bama. They hadn’t won a title in the title game era before that.

Yes. People only remember the failures. This is human nature.

Every defensive coach ever. The whole micro of offense is to get to a manageable 3rd down distance.

You forgot the great 2020 Bo Pelini on that list.

Also, out of that list I don’t really remember reading “3rd & Daronte” hardly at all. Maybe I missed them.
