So is it safe to say that “every” coach is guilty of this at LSU?

2003 remains the greatest defense in LSU history

What I never understood about Chavis is how he fell so far after arguably being one of the best DCs in the entire country in the mid to late 90’s.
That 1998 Tennessee defense was amazing.

Chavis 3rd down defense rate
2009- 63%
2010-67%
2011- 68%
2012-68%
2013-67%
2014-67%
So Chavis was really good on 3rd down his entire time here.
I would be curious to know his 3rd and long rate, because that's what I remember being frustrating. It wasn't that we were giving up tons of third downs; it's that we were giving up 3rd downs that we shouldn't be giving up.

The fact of the matter is that Chavis was an outstanding defensive coordinator while here..

It really is simple with Chavis. Go to 2012. Watch the Alabama game. Look at Chest tat's stats throwing for every drive before the last one. Watch how the defense played on every drive except the last one. The last drive we did something completely different and soft when the game situation didn't even warrant it and let that dude double his completions for the game. That's why he wears it. It isn't his overall body of work. Without that game no one would mention it.

And Muschamp is still a good DC.

3rd and Chavis followed him from Tennessee. The UT fans warned about it after we poached him.
I'm not saying it was or wasn't true, but I'd be more interested in 3rd down rate in the 4th quarter or when the game was on the line.
67% rate tells me nothing. That includes all cupcakes, all blowouts, everything.

It was Chavis that this term referred to so often. Just to have. 3rd and 16 and give up 17 yds. 3rd and 12 and give up 15. Seems it happened so much more with Chavis.

I’m 100% confident that there were people complaining throughout that whole season.
I mean the Ole Miss and Bama games speaks for themselves. If we didn't have the best offense in history, both of those games were very loseable

Not sure I would call a corner blitz soft? He was extremely aggressive that drive and Saban made him pay with a 23 yard screen pass into the blitzing side.
Also McCarron completed 4 passes out of his 14 completions that drive? Certainly not doubling his total. Now it was the drive with the highest number of completions, but McCarron had multiple drives with 3 completions, so it wasn’t much higher, and it was the only drive where the run wasn’t a factor due to the time, so you would expect more completions. Funny how people miss remember things and make them up in their head.
