OMG! the horrors of the only 2 teams to occupy the #1 overall ranking all year play a tight game where one play could make the difference.

quote:

We fricking struggled through the playoffs to win.

ok, first off, college baseball does not now, nor have they ever referred to their postseason as "playoffs"

2nd:
we didn't lose a single game in Regionals or Super Regionals, and only one of those games was even close.

We also beat Tennessee in Omaha rather comfortably. Twice.

so we had the audacity to play close games against the # and #2 teams in the entire tournament.
oh and went 4-2 against those 2 teams.

That's not "struggling". That's playing some damn good games against some really good teams.

quote:

struggled through multiple parts of the season

we were #1 in the country from before the first pitch into the final month of the season. and lost only 2 conference series all year.

quote:

should of

should HAVE*

you don't know what the post season is called.
you call maintaining the #1 spot for more than 3/4 of the season "struggling"
you call steamrolling through the postseason "struggling"
and you don't even know basic English that a 3rd grader would know.

Football is loose and go home baseball is full of mulligans. Great year and team but we had a stacked roster so not sure what odds we overcame.

The football and baseball teams had stacked rosters, the baseball team had to win the postseason without several really good arms they lost. That staff was anything but stacked down the stretch

I think everyone is just in simpleton mode with their purple and gold glasses about 19. Yeah it was a great season, but we didn’t do something that hasn’t/ or will never be done again

It's not about doing something that will never be done again. That team will be in every discussion when talking about greatest college teams of all time. And it's at the top of greatest seasons of all time because of the caliber of competition it beat throughout the season.

Any team that puts itself in the GOAT discussion (not just by its own fans but nationally recognized) then its not a team being overhyped by fan bias.

Op was comparing this team to 2019 lsu football.

Yea bouncing back from the losers bracket then barely winning multiple games that were a single play from elimination to win the title is struggling.

2019 lsu football steamrolled their playoffs, 2023 lsu baseball struggled but still won.

Don’t know that 2023 baseball was better than 2019 football but it was unique. Dinner, fancy snacks, and drinks every night during the regionals, supers, and CWS meant I was worn down and had to recover physically after that. Man, what a sustained run of intensity and enjoyment.

How are these two teams more accomplished than ‘09?

09 won all three titles. Regular season. Conference tournament and natty.

The CWS was my favorite for sure. This team could get a little frustrating at times during the regular season though, particularly with ducks on the pond.

We don’t even know if it will be as good as last year’s baseball team.

He did say 2023

if you’re doing by that sure. But 09 didn’t break any school records like 97 and didn’t have more wins total or sweep the post season awards like ‘23.

This. The 2000 LSU Baseball team went undefeated in post-season play. That's practically unheard of in baseball.

Maimi did it the very next year…

ETA: next was USCe in 2011.

It’s not just the number of titles; it’s the number of teams competing for the title.
It’s harder in baseball because there are 300 D1 teams trying to win that one title. In football there are 133 D1 teams trying to win that one title.
If you were in a league that had only 2 teams competing for the title, then it would be easier to win the title than if there were 499 other teams you were competing against.

Just like any sport you have to be playing your best at the right time. But it’s the only collegiate sport where can lose 4 times in the tournament and still win it all. So it’s actually one of the most fair ways to get to the champion.

Also in baseball, a Coastal Carolina can get it done. Where as a small school has absolutely no shot in football.

There’s talent involved, but there’s also luck involved and just playing your best ball at the right time.

I personally really enjoyed it but 2019 football is perfect season

Undefeated
Won the SEC
Heisman

2023 Baseball is really close.
I think battling back in Omaha actually enhances the season but if you’re comparing, we didn’t win the SEC.

And honestly that sucks because we were a half game back and played 1 less game than Florida and Arkansas.
