AI search of hitting a bump on the upper end of speed rated tires (Y rated):
tires were rated for 186, but the effects of hitting a bump and to the stress on the tire that a level track doesnt.
quote:
Hitting a bump at high speed with a Y-rated tire (rated for speeds up to 186 mph) involves extreme physical forces, combining the tire's rigid, high-performance construction with severe impact physics.
What Happens to a Y-Rated Tire on Impact
• Stiffer Sidewalls: Y-rated tires feature heavy-duty, rigid internal structures and minimal sidewall flex to handle high-speed cornering and thermal stress. Unlike softer touring tires, they absorb very little impact energy, transferring the shock directly into the wheel and suspension.
• Extreme Compression: At high velocity, hitting a sharp bump or pothole forces the tire sidewall to compress violently against the rim edge.
• Potential for Immediate Failure: High kinetic energy combined with a rigid sidewall increases the risk of a pinch flat, sidewall bubble, belt separation, or sudden blowout.
• Brief Airborne Event: Fast impacts can cause the tire/wheel assembly to momentarily lose contact with the road surface, slamming back down with amplified force upon landing.
tires were rated for 186, but the effects of hitting a bump and to the stress on the tire that a level track doesnt.

"Light speed is too slow. Let's go to Ludicrous Speed"

"What's the matter Colonel Sanders-----Chicken"?
Love that movie.

There's no way in hell I'm going 200 mph in a Tesla, even with the so called "track package". Much less on a public highway - the driver is lucky to be alive.
Again, we need an AUTO BOARD!

Sounded like he had a blowout in his drawers.

Thats why i never go over 174 on public roads.

Tesla doesn’t need to advertise
They really don’t - Model S rated year after year the safest car in the world. This was a real world win especially if the tire was faulty.

Pretty shocking he didn't die. Props to Tesla
Teslas are not engineered to withstand a crash at 175 MPH. His survival was dumb luck.

According to the video title and notes he was running tires that are recalled for tread delamination. Wonder if this was before or after the recall went out.

Speed rating Y = 300 km/h

Given how many times he rolled at 175 mph...and having been in a fully caged SUV that rolled quite a few times at 45mph... I would disagree.
The first rotation isn't that bad, the 2-5 is where it feels like you're getting beat with a sledge hammer. It would be very interesting see his face right after the first rotation.

What vehicle is?
Obviously he was lucky. However, it is still very impressive.

The only place in America I would even attempt this is on Louisiana roads.

Well that is just stupid.
Saves a ton of gas for the driver, though. Great MPG.

Probably can't drive again, if he lived.

I usually kept it to a conservative 180-200 kmh.
The dangerous part is how quickly that starts to feel normal.
You're spot on here. My natural speed on my work commute is 160. That's where I feel like I'm just cruising at a relaxing speed. I'm hitting 180 to 200 every week when traffic is light. The speed just doesn't register after a while.

what's so unnerving about electric cars and dirt bikes is you to crash out and fade to black in total silence.

Miraculously no one died.
Good news, cars have better survivability these days.
Bad news, energy has to go somewhere and dude will have pins and rods for the rest of his life along with a good 6 months of rehab and physical therapy.
