If we look at the results, this team is the same as it was under fatass. No material difference in terms of record and, oh yeah, we're going nowhere again this year.

He missed them but the defense was in his face all night. The interior Oline is the weak link.
LSU was in Russel's face all game too but he managed to move the pocket and/or make plays on the run.

The Actual Glaring Issue Holding The Team Back
Is the healing of Sam Leavitt's leg

The interior line is poor. The defensive lineman go laterally down the line of scrimmage, at will. They seem unable to get leverage and hold it long enough for a play to develop. In pass protection they are again weaker and slower so one or more is beaten on every play.
The lack of capable receivers is also a burden. These guys cannot get separation unless the square in on a route. They have no receiver capable of beating a guy and getting open downfield on a fly, corner or post route.
Simple formula to beat this offense when an opponent has linemen with the ability to go through the blockers laterally is to simulate pressure and take advantage of the inability to react when the offensive lineman has to adjust post snap. Drop those rushers into the short passing lanes and keep the safeties over the top.

It doesn’t help that we don’t have any young OL talent. It’s going to be straight portalling for the next several years at that position. The WR’s, Harris has been great and he’s probably going pro. Winnie is a 4th option at best and Wilson is a gadget player you can throw a few screens to. That room is going to have to be rebuilt too.
Lane took this job because you can attract top talent. He needs to step up the HS recruiting to build depth there instead of trying to find a bunch of small school diamond in the rough players. You have to have a mix and he we didnt get enough top tier HS talent in this class for the future.

They have actually run the ball well this yr. Weis goes away from it and then leavitt makes mistakes at the worst times.
He misses wide open receivers. The o line isn't great but leavitt was disappointing.
They missed on 3 or 4 receivers. That needs to be fixed. You only have harris and a hobbled trey dez as true threats.
Leavitt's eyes go down when he gets pressure.

If only they would recruit more O linemen.

The damage done by activist former player in 2020?

We may be more competitive, but we’re still losing the same number of games. What do you want to win a beauty contest or win games?

They got pressure with just bringing 4. That’s on the O line.

Keep telling that story.
It’s called a “hot read” for a reason.

Is it the o-line's fault all of his fourth-down slant passes get batted down?
