He was a guy who some of us watched play in high school and said would be a bust. I watched him get dominated by a 200-lb white kid from Country Day.
I remember quite a few people here questioning his ranking. He never really stood out to me either.

Rodney played at Southeastern with Bauer Sharp I believe. Ish transferred from USC to Southwest Mississippi Community College, never saw the field there.

I know in 2022 he went JUCO

Even in high school, most people on here were saying he was really overrated because he was out of shape, had a bad attitude, and took most plays off.
A majority thought he'd be another depth guy people forget about at Alabama and potentially Saban would run him off for his work ethic.
The national guys fell in love with this size and strength and the fact Saban was going after him hard.

He was lazy. No matter the people around him, you have to want to work.
It’s a shame to be blessed with a skill set that should easily yield $50M in contracts over his career, but to lazy to eat well and workout daily to become elite.
Sopsher chose a life of a trade to make $40K a year instead.

For the recruits that we lost to Bama, we didn't lose very many.
We wanted Landon Collins, Devonta Smith, Ishmael Sopsher and Cameron Robinson pretty bad. Eddie Lacy I don't think we offered until the last minute because we didn't think he would qualify.
Dylan Moses and Chris Allen were lost due to Miles being fired. It kind of worked out because Jacob Phillips and Patrick Queen ended up being better.

College dropout is what I would guess. He was also a victim of the poor choices of people he surrounded himself with.
And a lack of work ethic. He was 270-280 lbs and looked like a 5* his JR year of HS. His senior year he ballooned to 330 and looked fat and out of shape. His recruitment turned into a perception thing, because i’m sure both teams realized he was overrated but weren’t giving up on their 4 year long battle.

He is working at the barber shop, sweeping up hair.

Whatever happened to the barber and the kids coming out of that area? Seemed like there were quite a few for a stretch and now not so much.

No, the brother sucked, but the family was demanding that LSU also put the brother on scholarship to get Ishmael. Rodney was a 2-star JUCO player who went on visits with Ishmael.

Truth? Saban retiring. That was the connection the barber had. It wasn’t with Alabama. It was with Saban. The barber hasn’t been mentioned since Saban retired.
