UPDATED: Alabama recruiting in Louisiana has been bad in recent years

Note: This is a repost of an old post, updated today:
LSU fans have a severe inferiority complex and there is a mistaken belief that Saban just comes in Louisiana and takes whoever he wants. It's completely false.
Saban's recruiting in Louisiana is very over-rated. Christian Harris is LSU's only miss in the last 7 years.
Over the past 7 years, including 2024, Alabama has signed 11 players from Louisiana:
2024: No signees
2023: 1 signee: QB Eli Holstein
2022: 5 signees during a transition year: Bob, Lewis, Law, Anderson and Preston. Aaron Anderson has already transferred back to LSU. Preston is now in the portal without ever registering a stat. Bob never made it to campus and is at JUCO. He has no P5 offers currently out of JUCO. The other two have made little impact. The jury is still out on them.
2021: 1 signee: Kaine Williams (did he even have an LSU offer?) Already transferred.
2020: 1 signee Kyle Edwards (don't think he had an LSU offer) Transferred to Southeastern Louisiana
2019: 2 signees, Sopsher and Harris. Sopsher transferred and never made an impact. Harris was a very good player.
2018: 2 signees Slade Bolden and Eddie Smith. Both 3 stars. Bolden was extremely average and Smith transferred.

Seems like Law will end up being really good. Already is.
Considering that and Harris, Little Nicky ain't doing shite in LA lately. My condolences...

Wasn't Devonta Smith the previous year? That kind of sucks since he's a Heisman winner, regardless of it that season wasn't a "real" season.

Yes. That was the last good haul Saban got from Louisiana.

Actually, What has probably been more significant on tDecline at Bama is Kirby reigning in GA talent. Saban used to raid GA quite well pre-Kirby. It just was not so obvious because GA is a large population state and there were still good players to go around but he got a lot of good ones from there.

Louisiana puts out an embarrassment of riches at WR. We can't get and take them all.

Yea, that same year LSU took Jefferson and McMath.

Bama definitely missing in recruiting
Brockermeyer twins were a bust
The wr evaluations have been down since kiffin and sark left
Remember when they stole Keanu kocht from us, he’s yet to have an impact

One could make the case that the “fall” of Alabama is from the lack of top end LA talent.

This post should be carried around by every LSU recruiter

Saban being at LSU is now close to 20 years ago. He is not as tight with HS coaches today as he was even 10 years ago. In addition, he had Burton Burns from New Orleans on his staff and when he retired, he had Pete Golding who grew up in Hammond. FYI I think Pete Golding is a damn good coach, all that stuff the Bama idiots on FInebaum and message boards say is nonsense. He is a good DC and he busts it in recruiting, most DC's don't do that and want the position coaches to do all the heavy lifting for recruiting.
Those 2 guys had lots of ties to LA HS football. Saban it seems is spending more time in GA and FL these days. They still are recruiting top notch every year, but just not as much out of LA.

Yeah, Smith (Heisman), Chris Allen (Southern Lab, good player, but injuries have thus far kept him from playing on Sundays), Mathis (another good player, in a position of need, DT, we lost to Saban).
Those were all Top 10/12 players in the state that year (2017 class), Smith and Mathis Top 5 even.
