He was doing well at Texas State. Feel like he should have just stuck it out there...

It's unlikely he will be an NFL QB. So this may be his last chance to make a decent one-year "salary" playing football. May as well test the market. There might be a major conf. team desperate for a QB who is willing to give him a 6 figure deal. If not, he can go back to Texas St.

There's just no way he is getting any kinds of development.

His freshman year was 2020 which didn't count (covid). He played 2021 at Auburn, used a redshirt year in 2022 at Auburn, played 2023 at Texas State.

So he has technically only used 2 of his 4 years.

Correct, this is the same situation for Max Johnson. He played at LSU in 2020, went to Texas A&M and played in 2021 and 2022, this year he got hurt and did not play more than 4 games so he gets a Redshirt, hits portal where he has 2 years to play at UNC.

POS head coach recruited a power 5 QB to challenge him for the starting role. Pretty insane considering Finley gave them their best season in forever. Finley was a top 25 QB in 2023. Hopefully he goes to a place with a good situation.

He actually had a very solid year statistically.

It's like people are forgetting the lesson we just learned with Jayden Daniels. No matter how much football someone's played, there's always an opportunity for them to improve.

Matt Rhule already told everyone the market for a good transfer QB is $1.0M - $2.0M. Finley was No. 18, nationally, in total passing yards. He has as many passing TDs as guys like Cam Ward, Carson Beck, Sam Hartman. His QB rating was in the top 25 nationally.

So given those numbers and that it costs 7 figures to get a "good" starting QB, is it really outside the realm of possibility a major conf. team in need of a QB wouldn't be willing to spend $200k, $300k on an experienced QB who was in the top 25 nationally in most statistics? Hell, Wisconsin signed a guy (Van Dyke) who doesn't have Finley's numbers and was benched multiple times at Miami. I'm not saying Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, etc will be banging on his door. But I could see a mid-tier Big 12, ACC, Big 10 team showing some interest

Not sure it's fair to say that he won't be an NFL QB. Not many people are, but he had a really good year last year. If he can go to a decent school and post comparable numbers, who knows what can happen.
