Nice write up, 1 correction though, Anthony is out of eligiblity. He was a 2016 recruit so this was his 6th year.
2016 - redshirted
2017 - redshirt freshman
2018 - redshirt sophmore
2019 - redshirt junior
2020 - year didnt count
2021 - redshirt senior

• Andre Anthony (DE, technically has remaining eligibility but may or may not leave)
The only thing there is MAYBE they can give a medical redshirt but that would be a 7th season of eligibility and I kind of doubt the NCAA would do that after giving the free covid year and he already redshirted prior. If they would he might already have his masters by fall of next year and then he would have to enroll in a PhD program maybe
you want to talk about consistency Andre Anthony exemplifies this

Great work. So, it does not appear that a player who is paid with NIL money but who does not receive a scholarship counts against the numbers.
I haven’t delved into all the rules about it. I gave up understanding some of it a few years ago because shite changed but then there were loopholes were you had teams like a Tennessee somehow sign 30+ players.
But a good question. Why not just walk on and get the NIL money? To some, that could be worth more than the scholarship.

“ The departing player must have left the university on or after the last day of the university’s fall term (which appears to be December 11, 2021 according to LSU’s academic calendar). ”
Is this an issue? Not sure how many entered portal early

Good work lostinbr, I appreciate all the work and time it took to pull this together. This should help a bunch of Ranters relax a little.

It doesn't appear that all the kids on the 2020 roster took advantage of the one (1) year COVID exception; I think that's why Cam Lewis wrote his farewell statement up that way - he could have applied that year's exception and come back for another season (please tell me if I've missed something).

TG Shanahan is gone. Brutal.

Great post. Seems like as a group we are doing a much better job. I think we were all desiring a better quality subject matter without all the fluff.

Has anybody checked Emery's class schedule to make sure he's taking 12 hours of approved classes?

Doesn't really matter when they entered the portal. It matters when they left the university. So guys like Eli Ricks who entered the portal during the fall semester still qualify for replacement as long as they actually completed the semester at LSU prior to transferring (which he presumably would have done anyway to maintain eligibility).
The real impact here is that it means anyone that transferred during the spring/summer/early fall is NOT eligible for replacement. So we don't get additional signees to replace guys like Dare Rosenthal, TJ Finley, and Arik Gilbert.

According to Cam Lewis' bio on LSUSports.net:
- 2016: FR (redshirt year)
- 2017: RS FR
- 2018: RS SO
- 2019: RS JR
- 2020: RS SR (didn't count due to COVID year)
- 2021: RS SR (last year of eligibility)
So he's a 6-year guy.

Explain it to me like I’m 5
Some players are leaving

But we are getting new players to relace them

So if there are, say, 8-15 guys total that were not available for the bowl but are returning, that puts you at 73-80 scholarships if you sign a full class - not counting any additional players entering the portal or declaring for the draft.
important part...but i think the number is closer to 6-8, definitely not 15.

Brennan, Boutte, Gaye, Emery, and Bradford put you at 5.
Others that were missing from the depth chart who we know have been dealing with injuries:
- Goodwin
- Burns
- A. Bradford
- Small
Those guys put you at 9, and then there were 8 "TBD" guys on my list who weren't on the bowl depth chart, plus the 4 guys in the transfer portal that haven't actually left yet. So I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility to get 10+ scholarship players back who were missing from the bowl. Just my $0.02.

I feel like this is an attempt to troll me into going down a 4 hour rabbit hole, reading 200 pages of NCAA regulations and exceptions. I'm not falling for it!

I have a related question that may answer the question. Does a departure for any reason by an otherwise academically eligible player counts? Meaning that if a player simply quits the football team or school altogether and forgoes his scholarship, would that count? If it does, then walking on at another school would be essentially the same thing.
Just curious about your take, no need to chase that rabbit, never know what you'll find in a rabbit hole.
