Serious question: why doesn’t lsu administration just come out and answer ALL OF THESE QUESTIONS for the fans, as long as it doesn’t violate privacy laws? I don’t see the downside.

Which questions? If we are talking about educating the fan base on what the actual NCAA rules are regarding the signing limit waiver, one-time transfer exception, etc. then I would guess it’s just not a high priority for them.

If we are talking about the specifics around players, a few things to consider:

- University policy and federal privacy laws prevent the university from releasing any information regarding players’ academic records without express permission. In the case of Emery, we got those details because he went public (via his attorney) - not because LSU chose to release them.

- LSU isn’t going to share any info on players’ intentions regarding the NFL draft unless/until those players go public.

- Other info about suspensions and disciplinary actions is generally kept in-house. In the case of anything related to the drug & alcohol policy, it’s confidential. Other cases may or may not be confidential but it makes sense to treat them as such. Unless/until a player is actually dismissed from the team, the coaches are trying to set a player straight, not throw them under the bus and run them off.

- Lastly, there is a belief among many coaches that it’s generally not good for the program to differentiate between scholarship players, walk ons, and “preferred” walk ons. The idea is that they don’t want to create a caste system within the roster. That’s part of why you won’t find any list published by LSU showing who is on scholarship and who is not. You may find info on some players’ bios if they earned a scholarship as a walk on but that’s about it.

Yes. The 25 (32 with signing limit waiver) cap is for all initial counters regardless of whether they are high school recruits, JUCO transfers, D1 transfers, etc.

Really great job. A must read for those trying to digest this mess caused by the NCAA and the USSC. Thanks.

So we can sign as many portal guys as we want as long as we don’t exceed 32 total “initial counters” and we had an equal amount transfer/opt/declare while still academically eligible?

No idea what’s actually going on with Skinner, but he didn’t play in the bowl and we picked up another LS from the portal.

Can anyone answer Q Skinner, have not heard why he didn’t play BG or did I miss his entering portal. I know we signed LS from ECU, just very unusual to see these Georgia snappers Ferguson boys go pro and then Skinner start , good job no errors and then what? A taken for granted that we’ve had the luxury of for 10 straight years 2 pros and now crickets

Sounds like we won't get up to 85 Scholarships for another recruiting year. Definitely not this year.

I didn't think so, but now I'm not so sure. We haven't heard a peep out of a lot of the guys who didn't play in the bowl, which is interesting.

I went through the guys with remaining eligibility, and I count 52 who have not announced any intention to leave. I think about 3 of those guys are probably at risk to leave. So that's 49-52 returning scholarship players.

49 + 32 = 81 on scholarship for 2022
53 + 32 = 85 on scholarship for 2022

That's without counting the guys who are still in the portal - Deion Smith, Bugg Strong, and Koy Moore. If any of those guys come back, they would add to the numbers above.

All of that said, we are currently sitting at 22 total commits for 2022. So we would need a full 10 more transfers/signees to get to those numbers. But it definitely looks possible as of right now.

I read the other day that like 60% of players In transfer portal never get signed to a new team

THIS. Because there are a very large number of total players in the portal and because of that, if they weren't ever major contributors to the team they are leaving, they can easily get left out. That is the chance those players take. Koy Moore might be a good player, but he only caught 5 passes for 71 yards this year and could be left out if no team finds value in him OR if they don't have room for him.

I’m fairly certain that just about any scholarship player at LSU can find a home somewhere, barring significant off the field issues. It’s more a question of whether they find somewhere they actually want to go.

I wonder if Moore will have to settle for a school in a mid major conference.

Even with all the receivers this team had in the 21 season, it still appeared that he was an underachiever.

Seems like a bad time to get rid of someone like Austin Thomas, unless you believe he is at fault for letting us get to this point.

Or maybe if you have a competent coach and staff a GM is not needed

ok now do the Bama/Saban rules

Same rules. Saban is better than anyone else. THAT’s why he wins, not because there are special rules.

LSU fans were always whining that Bama could sign more than 25, but they never seemed to notice that LSU could NOT EVEN SIGN THE FULL 25! Bama wasn’t playing by different rules, they were just the only team with the ability to take advantage of the rules.

Look at the situation we have now. You can have 85 players. Will we? No! Bama will. In fact, Bama will find a way to have 90. LSU could use the same rules to get to 90, but what good would it do? We can’t get to 85!

I feel like this will be case and that LSU will struggle with depth when injuries inevitably occur. For that reason alone I’d be surprised if they have a winning season.

LSU will have a winning season next year. They have good depth, actually. LSU will have about 75 players. The 10 they are missing are the ten freshmen they didn’t sign. Those would not have supplied much in the way of depth.
