Recruiting in Louisiana has been great but losing 2 in the top 5 stings…

McKinley seemed like an LSU lock up until the last few months and seeing him walk is going to hurt.

According to Sam Spiegelman from ON3 on McKinley.

“ McKinley, who comes from a very close family, is expected to commit out of state next month.”

Losing Wardell Mack to Florida seems like a pretty odd commitment and there is a lot of time to make up ground there and I don’t think that is over and either does Spiegelman.

“ Even after giving a commitment to the Gators, the elite DB is still planning to make in-season visits to some familiar contenders.”

Let’s pray we can flip Wardell.

In the past we lost these players to Bama.
Now it's the highest bidder.
Just the way it is now.
It's money that can help these families out before they ever play a NFL snap. Can't blame them.

McKinley was never a lock, he wasn’t even a lean. He went from leaning bama to leaning Texas. What does that tell you about his priorities?

It's not as if LSU is not giving them anything.

That said, I guess at least at Alabama they were almost guaranteed to be a part of a championship caliber program. Thus far it's the Texas schools (to no ones surprise) spending the biggest in NIL. The difference they aren't getting the ROI from a success standpoint. Texas has been "back" for the last decade...except only they think that. A&M shook the system last season...and promptly had a losing season.

I don't blame kids for taking big money. That is often life changing for their families. But it may get to a point where taking a few thousand less to go to LSU, but competing, will outweigh being irrelevant in Texas.

McKinley never was an LSU lean according to his Dad which I speak to at least once a week, I was telling this board all along he was leaning out of state and LSU had some ground to make up, not offering him during camp his Jr yr hurt their chances and they have been playing catchup ever since.

nobody else offered him then either but I guess they just have to hold LSU to a different standard to justify him going elsewhere

Also his dad is the problem for LSU in the recruitment and Wardell's also

This is just an excuse, IMO

Wish him the best, honestly and probably a pretty good chance he'd come back to LSU at some point. No need to burn any bridges.

I've never got the feeling that McKinley was seriously interested in LSU. He wasn't on anyone's radar and blew up last year due to his size (6' 6" 270) and future athletic potential. His mom is an educator with 24-yrs invested in the teaching system. She could enter "drop" after this year and retire early. She has travelled with and attended all of the McKinley brothers recruiting trips. Mom will definitely have some influence on where he signs. Schools are very aware of this and recruiting mom with emphasis on education, specifically the computer science program. LSU has done everything they can to secure his commitment. Unfortunately, McKinley has no problem leaving the State and is very high on what Texas is selling. I expect younger brother to follow in his footsteps. Sucks for LSU but some kids just wanna get away, i.e. Sederic Van Pran to UGA. Definitely not over until the fax is sent in on NSD.

The current staff at Texas might not even be there at this point

The family bought in to Texas Bs and negative recruiting of LSU - saying we are going on probation/bowl ban - they called the afternoon Lindsey almost died using that against us

The only problem in missing out on mckinley is if kelly doesn't have a similar player to commit.

The interior dline recruiting has been bad the last 2 years.

It’s like a famous coach has said.. It’s not a 4 year decision, it’s a 40 year decision. LSU family takes care of former Tigers after their playing days are over. I’m sure other schools do the same. Friends have had opportunities to hire former Tigers and players that left the state. Always hired the guys that bled Purple and Gold. May not have always worked out, but gave them the opportunity.

If he commits to LSU I will be thrilled. If he doesn’t then I could honestly not care less if I ever hear his name again. There are other football players. Not worried.
