Correct and correct. Think he will get his waiver and we riding.

Think Divine from Michigan State will fill in that role as a primary ball handler.
Or. Who needs guards with forwards like Luis, Niang, Dessert, and Graves (plus Santos and Mo Dioubate).

I think Hampton reclassifies and is a Tiger.
Didnt Hampton promptly shoot down any real chance of this happening over the weekend?
Posted on 5/19/26 at 9:30 am to thunderbird1100
He did , but his father said something different, Kentucky will still be a player down to the wire for him regardless which class. Big blue will not be happy if Wade in a month and a half gets Hampton and Santos from Pope who has had years.

So it looks like he may be expecting one or maybe two of these to fall through when trying to gain eligibility. Listed as signed and probable signees there are 9 right now with Graves still as a hopeful. he talked about paying 7-8 or maybe 9.

I really want Graves
I hope he can realize he can make the same amount of money, play for his hometown team, and be a borderline lottery pick if he comes back

It's being widely reported that he is ineligible and can't be considered for a waiver. This will have to be taken to court. Is it a sound strategy to flaunt the NCAA when most of your roster will likely need NCAA waivers? I mean, it's not like the NCAA has ever tried to screw LSU basketball over.

Saying it other threads, this is a big reward payoff sure but it's a gamble that I didn't feel it worth taking...so many talented guys that you can have in the building now instead of this horse and pony show.

On a pretty popular podcast just discussed rumors the NCAA is not only hemorrhaging money due to all of the legal challenges and battles, but their reign is coming hopefully sooner than later to an end of having any say in major college men’s basketball or football.

They don’t have any teeth anymore period. I said it early on when CWW started with this strategy and took a step back from the norma portal and it is more glorious than I could have hoped for. The amount of coaches, “reporters”, fans of other programs that will come out of the woodwork to in any way say this isn’t right or it’s unfair is amazing. They quite literally had multiple big name college blue blood coaches fly half way around the world trying to get some of the guys LSU got. Strong arse offers have been paid, results are in. Now you have to get them over here.

I'm not saying the NCAA is correct but there is needs to be some sort of true governance over this shite. We've completely lost plot of amateurism, academics, and athletics.

you lost amateur status when they started paying these kids 6 and 7 figure salaries. pay them. sure. but should have always been like 25k/yr max with like 10k raise each year you are at a school. if you transfer you go back to freshman rate of 25k. not very many if any kids working there way through school is making 25k. not to mention they get all the perks of free school, free room and board, scheduling perks and free tutoring (aka people doing online courses for them). Know you can't go back to something like this now that it already so far beyond that but I would have been fine with something like that.

From a legal perspective the players aren't being paid "salaries"...because they are not "employees" and the school is not their "employer". Classifying the relationship as employer/employee brings in a big realm of additional laws/regulations that neither the school nor the players want to get into.
Your proposal sounds great, in theory. However, it would almost assuredly be declared an unlawful restraint of trade quickly struck down as violations of anti-trust laws.
I think a LOT of the issue is people misuse terms such as "salaries". While yes, in effect, the players are getting paid to pay football, basketball, etc. Legally they are not. NIL payments are payments for the use of a players NIL...which only he or she owns. Again, it's in practical effect an inducement to play for a certain team. But it is still not a salary.

only a matter of time before the lower paid players get greedy and sue for equal salary of others
Posted on 5/19/26 at 1:50 pm to nicholastiger
Its about time all the kids on "club" teams for the school sue for their money as well along with dance team members, cheerleaders and band members that need a piece of the pie. blow this whole system up

I you are saying there are suits saying the softball team should be getting an equal % of revenue share dollars as the men's basketball team, those lawsuits are already out there (or at least proposed)
But on an individual basis the lower paid players would have not cause of action...because neither them, nor the higher paid players, are being paid a "salary"
Posted on 5/19/26 at 2:08 pm to Alt26
think we were talking more like in this "everyone gets a trophy" society that we have now that this is the next logical step is everyone suing for equal pay and all. Not necessarily what can and will happen legally speaking.

I agree with the concept of NIL in general. Players should be able to sell their autographs, do TV spots on the side, etc.
But the problem is profit sharing, etc.
Also, there should be a cap.
You're forking over multi-million dollar deals to kids who haven't earned it. Some sophomore quarterbacks are getting paid more than second year NFL players.
Also, it's patently absurd to me that an 18 year old kid because they look good, have social media, and can play a sport are making more than top tier lawyers, doctors, teachers. Even further with the portal, there is no more school or state pride. Hard to fully engage at times because many of these kids will be gone in a year because they aren't getting their way and starting right away.
Like I said, we've completely lost the plot.

NIL was always a bait and switch situation. Can’t believe people didn’t see it.

Hampton already announced he's not coming out early. He will be C/O '27.

Any chance LSU can finish out with Montero, Graves, and Burks, or is that a pipe dream?
A dream finish would be LSU somehow landing Montero, and Graves, and the last 2 guys being filler pieces like Nunez.
Honestly Hampton staying in the 27 class works for me. I already think LSU is going to have a very good team next season, especially if they get Graves or Montero.
So hopefully LSU lands Hampton, and Spears in the 27 class, and sets up for another elite team after next year.
