On Tuesday, LSU tight ends coach Derek Shay brought in St. Thomas Aquinas tight end Mason Taylor for an unofficial visit, which also allowed the staff to get a mini-workout session in with the 6-foot-4.5, 230-pounder.

In 2020, Taylor started for a St. Thomas Aquinas team that went 8-1 and won a 7A Florida state title, and he was tabbed as a Miami Herald All-Broward 8A-6A First-Team selection with six catches for 133 yards on the season. LSU recently signed a pair of STA products in offensive linemen Marlon Martinez and Marcus Dumervil, who inked with the Tigers in the 2020 class.

Taylor is the son of NFL legend Jason Taylor, who was a six-time Pro Bowl selection during a lengthy career with the Miami Dolphins. Taylor was named the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year in 2006 and was the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year in 2007.

I was thinking we needed two TE rather than Two RB.

Not even trying to start shite, here.

But you can find an RB in La pretty easily.

Got an offer from Bama this week too. Baw’s stock is on the rise.

He’ll be a 5 star if he commits to Bama early. Will be a low 4 star if he chooses LSU early.

It’s definitely going to be interesting to see how these rankings shift post camps and summer evals. Going to be a ton of movement I’d presume.

Is it bad that I didn’t know Derek Shay is our Tight Ends coach?

Unfortunately, Jason Taylor and Zach Thonas had a great relationship with Saban when he coached the Dolphins. Saban actaully traded Pat Surtain to KC instead of paying him but he was still able to sign Pat Surtain Jr. Don't hold your breath waiting for LSU to land Mason Taylor - especially with Jake Johnson in the fold.

Agree with you dstone.

They also had Jack Nickels at camp last week but I’m not sure what kind of traction was made or if we are legitimately in it for him.

Bottom line is we could use a second TE in this 2022 class. I’ve been wondering why basically nothing has been mentioned about Trent McGaughey and LSU, because I read there is a connection between the two (2). I believe his father was an assistant coach in Baton Rouge at one point in recent past

That’s an understatement. Those guys personified football grit. I hope he’s a Tiger.

I think he's an analyst-coach, not an "on field" position coach. With the limit of on field coaches it forces teams to make some position coaches analysts.

That last name sounds like the special teams coach several years ago, Thomas maybe?

This is great to see.

In general I love to see camp/workout offers.

And if Taylor puts on just the right amount of muscle mass/density he has the potential to be a do-it-all TE.

It definitely seems he's going to blow up. Appears he fell through the cracks as far as evaluations and that's about to change. Be a little bit of a fight to land him, but still...

So….I’m really impressed with how LSU is now doing in person workouts and how we’re getting guys from smaller schools to join the roster as walk ons. I never heard about this in previous years. It’s cool. Ed O is upping the ante.

Looks pretty good.

Can run well for his size.

Love how he snatches the ball out of the air.

Jason Taylor married Zach Thomas’s sister?

And he plays Offense?

Where did you hear this? Zach Thomas is one of the reasons Saban left the NFL.

Culpepper and Thomas try to fight Saban
