the next step for Brown is hitting lefties almost as good as he hits righties

if he can do that he will be a everyday starter with double digit homers most likely

Brown is probably an every day player next year anyway bc Josh Pearson is out of eligibility.

You know it had to be bad for him to think it was too dumb to post.

you’re 100% right he’s absolutely an every day player next year.

He still needs to get better vs LHP and I think he will

Maika Niu, SS, Marshall, SO, #244
.276/.343/.560/.903, 55R, 15HR, 52RBI, 25BB, 51K, 14-15SB

Looks like this guy has committed to Arkansas. Fielded below .900 so they must see him in a spot other than SS.

Arkansas is taking a lot of guys in the portal again. You’d think at some you need to trust your evaluations and believe in your ability to develop players. I can’t imagine recruiting over guys every year is a great long term plan but maybe I’m missing something here.

Totally agree. Also, you don’t want your program primarily building through the portal IMO. This year is a great example. It’s a very weak portal class compared to previous years.

I’m new to this thread (and not a typical Ranter, so I come in peace), but maybe we are seeing the end of DVH’s era very, very soon?

LSU uses the same playbook…this year is exception due to weak portal options and their tampering didn’t work out. Trust, if CJJ could he would. Thankfully, some returners have their spots locked down-anything vacant is going to a portal guy.

So much stupidity in that post. So Arkansas is still recruiting over guys despite the weak portal crop. What’s that tell you? Jay is 4 years in here and has won 2 natties. He knows how to build a roster. 4 years in and yes he’s got a nucleus of guys he’s recruited who he believes in, as he should.

There’s a big difference in taking a few guys to add experienced depth versus replacing a chunk of your roster with portal guys when you’ve been a coach some place for 23 years.

Please don’t accuse Jay of tampering. You have no proof and the media insinuations are just irresponsible. Just because he beat everyone for some big names doesn’t mean he tampered. He’s widely known to be one of, if not the very best, recruiters in the game.

Lastly, you won’t find one player who was linked to LSU before they even entered the portal who ended up here, unlike some of our rivals. Again, what’s that tell you.

GTFO with the tampering bullshite.

I'll give you one guess who theses posts are from

quote:

Really weird how CJJ built this team. He forced his hand with the returners and transfers. No way he should not have worked more to develop/incorporate more of this so called elite freshman class.

just bad managing,

quote:

A real hitting coach is needed. CJJ likes to portal shop and hope he can find the next best thing....needs to get back to development.

quote:

CJJ appears to need elite out of the portal cause they can't develop well enough.

quote:

based on what I am hearing this is what is being taught by Wanaka and Simpson...swing up...which is super ridiculous.

quote:

CJJ sold Dickinson on the SS job was his to lose; he lost it. CJJ had to pivot quickly and came up with the spin that Milam is best defender he has after he went out and spent high six figures on a 2B which he already had...smh

quote:

Simpson apparently is teaching some crap about launch angles hence all of the pop ups we saw this weekend. This could set this team back significantly if CJJ lets him take over hitting...that is not his strong suit.

I smell disaster!

quote:

also fielding is a grey area as there is no real INF coach outside of CJJ...I think this speaks volumes as to why you have the deficiencies over his tenure. All of the coaching budget has gone to a former MLB scout for hitting and coaching OF(Simpson); a pitching coach (highest paid by the way) and a catcher coach (Jordan) that stands 5'3...how do you improve your fielding %'s with this cast of characters

quote:

not sure what if anything josh Jordan can be teaching...has even ever caught?

quote:

exactly! the hard. truth is this staff can develop hitting but nothing else...when you have Josh Simpson (overweight coach potato) coaching outfielders, CJJ coaching infielders and Josh Jordan coaching catching...no defensive development gurus....yeskie pitching lacks something too...

quote:

over coaching, playing favorites...and looking like arse! no way you put reaves in your INF and he could not even crack the INF at his old JUCO...that is wild!

quote:

The blank check approach to the transfer portal I think is behind us for the most part. A lot of money was spent on useless pieces in the portal. I have so many questions on who the talent evaluator was that signed off on some of these guys!

quote:

Reality is chief was replaced with Coach Simpson re: hitting...he is a launch angle conniseur....and we seee what that has gotten us

quote:

portal teams; will be without leadership every year because 1/2 the team is new every year.

quote:

This is where it all starts. CJJ promoted Josh Simpson to some kind of hitting role and he is a big believer in launch angle and upper cut swings. The writing it on the wall that sheit don't work! better cut it out!

quote:

So glad he stuck with his approach and did not adopt the Coach Simpson swing for the fences/launch angle crap!

j
quote:

ust trash
Poor lineup choices
Indefensible pitching selections
just trash...

Daivd Hogg II enters portal

Good lord Lester, and those are all from that one clown? He probably should retire from posting about baseball. Some of the most poorly aged takes I have ever seen haha.

really makes you wonder if this is one of the main reasons they can never get over the hump because most these guys are just 1-2 year players in DVH program and no culture can be established. Not anti portal here but I think most here would agree you need a healthy balance of the HS kids that are here for 3-4 years in the program and a couple of impact transfers, which Jay has done a masterful job at this.
