Is it possible we are undervaluing Reaves? Seems like he is a couple boxes of Wheaties away from stroking a decent amount of HR next year

I still cant imagine him as a full time infield starter with his defense. He would have to improve immensely to get an infield spot offensively to have as many errors as he does IMO.
Not impossible by any means, but i just get the feeling he's more DH material than anything.

Understood. It seems clear Jay is going to prioritize defense moving forward. I just hope it clicks for him defensively because I do believe there is some untapped potential there and he seems like a great team guy.
The portal guys are always shiny but I’m optimistic that we have some good pieces on this team already who will make big jumps next year

He didnt pitch at all this past season but started throwing back in Aug 2024 after surgery? When was his surgery?
Didn't Tennessee have like 30 pitchers on their roster this season? It may have just been decided to redshirt him and not rush back.

Even if that's the case, it would've been too soon for him to pitch this season. He would've been in the same boat as Sheerin. Maybe could pitch by the end of the season, but by that point your down to who you know will give you competitive innings

Reese can play the OF too
But wishing guys into the portal isn’t really my jam. I like the portal, the worse thing about it is the fans though.
100%.
Apparently Reese is this years Laviolette. People trying to talk it into existence when as of now it isn't a possibility.

Reaves actually was very good defensively in the fall before the season. Was consistent with few or zero errors and made some highlights. I don't think he is far away defensively as many might think. That being said 2B is probably his natural position but could play 3B or outfield.

mean we just had a guy with 80 k's swing and miss is going to be part of some guys who hit for power, the near .400 average means its a lot of quality contact when he gets a hold of it
He hit .287/.388/.461 vs the Southland with a 32K%
That’s not bad in a vacuum but SEC pitching would demolish him

I think we lose sight that he was more of a 2B and SS prior to coming here. 3B is a much different animal. He struggled early with some errors, but was pretty solid later in the season.

Hi guys. Long time lurker here, but has there been any word on Gasparino? I know it's assumed he's going back to the west coast, but I've seen on his IG he has a lot of recent follows of SEC coaching staffs and players from MSU, aTm, and Arky.

I agree with you. He screams platoon DH or late pinch hitter looking for a miracle but there have been some instances where these transfers raise their game and hit better in the sec. Way more examples of the opposite happening. I'll give you that.

Reaves wasn't a shortstop. He played some 2B in JUCO, but then was relegated to the OF. He played a little 3B in summer ball. He was never considered a strong fielder.

My bad, I knew he played some outfield, but thought he also played some SS.

He’s older so maybe, but I doubt it

Reaves was sent to the OF in JUCO and used as a DH due to bad defense. It would take a miracle, not impossible...but miracle. He is old too like 22/23 so as CJJ says old and strong beats young and weak so we will see...

I don't think Reaves is that bad of a defensive infielder. It may not be a strong suit but I would say he's average. Not saying he will start or even play-- i just think the narrative of him being a bad defender is kind of overblown.

I wish someone young and strong would beat you like you beat this fricking talking point into the ground.

You're missing the SLC tournament from that which he went 9 for 17 in. Dude was definitely on a heater at the end of the season.
Starting from 4/25 on which includes final 3 conference series, 5 SLC tournament games and a couple non-conf (USM, Jackson St) he went 23 for 60 (.383) and had 4 HR in the 5 games of the SLC tournament specifically.

I dont see how its overblown, he looked absolutely lost at 3B this season for the most part, definitely not a natural position for him. Fielding definitely way below average but the arm is average to below average for a 3B as well. If he's playing anywhere in the INF 2B seems to make way more sense.
He was so bad fielding in the infield his JUCO moved him to the OF and then to DH only over his time there. Some guys just cant field well and he seems to be one of them.
He got shots at 3B this season due to Braswell just not hitting at all and could never take over that spot because the defense just never materialized (nor did the bat really as they would have expected). He was never going to take AB away from Dickinson at 2B obviously.
