Former Alabama and USC defensive lineman Ishmael Sopsher re-entered the transfer portal this week, @on3sports has learned. Sopsher, a Class of 2019 top recruit, had transferred to Southeastern Louisiana earlier this offseason.

This board used to be obsessed with this guy. Recruiting is a funny thing.

It was understandable because he was a highly rated Louisiana recruit who chose to sign with LSU's most hated rival. No one has a crystal ball to say exactly how a HS prospect will perform in college. Recruiting comes down to projecting how well a coach thinks a HS player will perform, and the projections for Sopsher were high.

That said, there were (or at least should have been) some very clear red flags about him. Most notably was the fact he a massive individual with good athleticism for someone that size, yet he rarely dominated his much smaller and less athletic competition. Sure, there were flashes of dominance. But not on a consistent basis. So it is not a surprise whatsoever he has failed to do anything of note in college now that the gap in the competition level has significantly decreased. If you can't dominate 2A and 3A high school players, what do you think you will be able to do against major college talent?

Looks like he’s decided to become a professional recruit.

Typically, a pretty damn good gig.

Any person that follows recruiting can see this coming a mile away. None of this is a surprise.

Why in the world am I being downvoted for being right?

I wanna say Tate Martell transferred either 3 or 4 times. Definitely 3 (OSU, Miami, UNLV).

I lived in Amite for 30 years, even covering LSU recruiting. Amite doesn't put out as much talent as this board thinks. D Smith is pretty much the exception. From practices much smaller offensive linemen moved Sospher around just by being aggressive. Word was, Sospher is lazy. If he can't make it at Southeastern, maybe he should give the Greensburg trade school a shot at a skill or the truck driving academy in Hammond.
