Does Stromile Swift fit within the 20 year window? I think he might, just barely.

Best player to ever step foot on a Louisiana High School Basketball court since Maples Surop back in the mid-80's

I seent it back then and seent it now.

Game as sweet as anything Ive ever seent. Smart takes it to anutha level.

Also Derenbecker was the 3rd best in the state in his class, why you'd think he'd be in top 10 over last 20 years? He did nothing in college to make a case for him

Just because a recruiting service doesn't view someone as a top recruit, doesn't necessarily mean he wasn't a great high school player. Also, this has nothing to do with how they panned out after high school.

Derenbecker averaged 25 and 10, was Mr. Louisiana twice, and led country day to the state championship in both his junior and senior season.

Tweety Carter was another one who wasn't necessarily a great prospect but was great high school player. At 5'8, I bet he averaged 30 a game over his high school career.

If the topic was the "best high school players in the past 30 years," Randy Livingston would have been number one.

Derrick Zimmerman should be listed. He sneaks into the last 20 years.

Tyrus Thomas and Darrell Mitchell should be on this list IMO
Tyrus Thomas was not a highly touted recruit at all. He was clearly one of the most pleasant surprises, obviously.

Chris Duhon - Salmen High School. Dude was a BEAST. Was the best player in the state then started at Duke and won a natty his freshman year. Or did we forget about that?

8. Matt Derenbecker, Country Day
9. Brandon Bass, Capitol High School
10. Jarell Martin, Madison Prep

Mitch has to take one of these spots just for taking Chalmette to the final four. Other than him we've been trash...

Also Melvin Frazier who took Higgins to the Top 28 and they've been trash since.

In a few years, if some current college players pan out, you could have a lineup of just 8-5A players in the NBA that would be competitive

I agree since he is the only LA baller to win the Gatorade National POY

had he not blown his knee out, his NBA career would likely have equalled Jason Kidd's

FWIW ... LA has 3 NPOY in FB , P. Manning, T. Minor, and B. Berlin

Past 20 years. Does Livingston make that cut? I know it’s close to that time.

DJ faced better competition. Give me dj over smart. Took a top 5 national team to the limit as a freshman. 2 state titles. Would have been a third. DJ would have been the 06 player of the year. He also actually had competition for that award when he was in school.
