How can you say Smart had no competition?
Who did he beat to win state? Tre Swilling and Parker Edwards?
And yea, the competition for Mr. Basketball was greater as well.
04 seniors included Big Baby and Shan Foster, 05 had Taz, Ryan Francis, Kenny Cooper and Terry Martin.
Mitch was never going to win. Not as a transplant playing in Chalmette.

Very sad what happened with Matt Derenbecker committing suicide. I had actually met his dad only a few months before it happened. Losing a child is the worst.

But if you're saying that a transplant doesn't win Mr. Basketball, well why should an underclassman win it either? Pretty sure in football only seniors can win it, so why different in basketball?

You didn't choke, y'all just weren't good outside of him.

Football is a much different sport than basketball.

Well I mean if we're gonna just throw folks out there like Ludwig and Derenbecker, Ill be a homer and throw Markel Brown out there.
4 year Varsity Player at Peabody on 2 state championship teams, 2007 and 2010. 4 years at Peabody 34-5, 38-1, 32-3 ans 41-0. He avg 32, 10 and 5 as a senior playing as a 6'3 center/shooting guard. 28, 8 and 4 as a junior. 2010 Louisiana Mr. Basketball. I maybe wrong but I believe he may be Peabody's all time leading scorer and his #22 jersey has already been retired at Peabody.
Went to Oklahoma St. was a 3 year starter, senior year they ranked as high as #2 in the country. Leading OK State in scoring in a win over Kansas in Allen Fieldhouse. Finshed his career as one of the greatest all around statistical players in the Oklahoma St. record book.
Drafted #44 by the Timberwolves and traded to the Nets starting the better part of 2 seasons for the Nets before being let go and now playing for the current Western Conference, 1 seed Houston Rockets. He could add NBA champion to his resume at the end of this season.

Chris Duhon - Salmen High School. Dude was a BEAST. Was the best player in the state then started at Duke and won a natty his freshman year. Or did we forget about that?
He may not have even been the best in Slidell. We’re talking High School, not Duke, try to read a little better.

quote:he could have and maybe should have... Btw Mitch's senior year was his 2nd year here.
I'm saying a transplant isn't coming in and unseating the reigning and defending Mr. Basketball.

If the topic was the "best high school players in the past 30 years," Randy Livingston would have been number one.
If the last 25 years you are correct. His senior year was 1994 so he does not fit in the Last 20 years frame.
