Is anyone else concerned by the lack of talent at D line in this class?

I don't want to bring meatball down, but it seems that our quality of talent has been going down at the position. I know O is one of the best D line coaches but looking at last year's class and what we have so far it has to be concerning. Not sure if anyone else agrees but Ish is going to Bama, I think LSU is completely out on him.

I'm pretty sure everyone agrees on this. The staff needs to be going after plans B, C, D.. and so on. If we get left at the altar again and miss out on somebody else I'm gonna be pissed.

Beating a dead horse, but yes. Especially considering our head coach is a supposed D-line and recruiting guru.

I think the point of what I am saying isn't just how they said we need to improve the D line and we have, then when we play SEC teams we are dominated. Rather who believes we should keep Dennis Johnson as the D line coach? He hasn't won any battles for us nor does he seem to improve guys....

Yes/no. Hard to bring in a great haul every year (I know, I know...unless you are that team). Last year we got:
Cherry WDE/OLB
Hines DT
Moore WDE
Cotton DT
Jenkins DT
Livingston DT
With the projected starters likely returning, I can see where inbounds would see our depth chart as a little crowded for PT. Of course gaining 2-3 impactful DL would sure add to the equation.

O and Meatball haven't brought in quality DL just quantity. Last years haul didnt have one guy who is a difference maker and this class is much of the same.

How do you know none of them are quality? Farrell has looked pretty damn good most of the year and Shelvin played well down the stretch.

What did you see from Thomas, Livingston, Cotton, Cherry, Jenkins that leads you to the conclusion that they're not going to be quality players?

Of course. Probably my biggest gripe with the program.

The HC claims we need to get better on the dline to compete with Bama. This is what they do?!?!

LSUs Dline class:
3* #45 DT

Bama's Dline class:
4* #3 SDE
4* #4 SDE
4* #6 SDE
4* #5 WDE
4* #16 SDE
4* #15 DT
Currently lead for:
5* #1 DT
4* #11DT

Quite concerning that 0’s narrative has been “rebuilding the lines”, yet these seem to be the most questionable position groups on the team in terms of current depth, performance, and recruiting.

Lack of snaps/impact plays. We’ve seen impact freshman before. None of these kids were it. Doesn’t mean they won’t be good players but right now they just look like bodies, not difference makers. The teams that we need to beat for SEC championships are recruiting difference makers on the line. And to make it worse, our offensive line is suspect at times.

Whoever is responsible for recruiting the DL is doing a terrible job. Deflect it to whoever you want.

These teams aren't starting true freshmen and sophomores on the lines, though. Quinnen Williams redshirted his freshman year and now, in his 3rd year is maybe the best defensive player in college football.

Neil Farrel's sophomore numbers look nearly identical to Quinnen Williams RSFr numbers. Except for Shelvin, none of the other guys from the 2017/2018 classed played enough to know whether or not any of them can be difference makers. But you can't say with certainty that none of them will be. Defensive line is a developmental position. There are no quick fixes. That's why recruiting years like 2014 and 2015 can set a program back. In 2015, we landed zero linemen. Those guys would have been seniors this year. It's so detrimental not to have any senior defensive linemen on a team.

It's concerning that we only have one guy this year, but one is definitely better than none and we still have time left to add some more. But, rest assured, whoever we add this year, isn't likely to help us next season.
