I remember someone saying that Denver Harris is a bad apple. That we do not want him. Seemed to know the kid from High School from the post he put up after Harris was suspended last month.

Yes, but that was by Aggys. They aren’t as logical and levelheaded as LSU fans

CBK is a master of his craft.
Still pinching myself that he's at LSU.

I thought for sure Woodward closed Kelly to get him to B.R.

Starting to think Kelly closed Woodward to get it done.

not saying that LSU needs Harris, but look at the history of the NE Patriots. They have brought in guys that had gotten into trouble in the past, and that seemingly stopped when they got to NE. Maybe Harris reacts positively to true leadership? Or maybe not.

Chuck Oliver was talking about that exact thing on his show. Not in regards to Harris or LSU, but he specifically brought up the Patriots and he was talking about the portal. I instantly though about Denver being able to adapt to LSU's locker room.

You are comparing a professional franchise that has had the same coach there for 23 years known for being a hardass. Oh and he's won 6 Superbowls (National Championships, if you will). He's coached up one of the best if not the best QB in football history.

And you want to compare him to our program that has a coach in his first year trying to establish the program in his own way.

There is literally no comparison right now. Maybe after several years of consistency then we can talk about this again

Loving what I am hearing from BK. Bring in the freshmen, teach them discipline/culture and development them on/off the field. Be selective in the portal to bring in plug and play type guys who fit your locker room. It is nice having an adult in charge!!

Yeah no more offering rodney sophser a scholly just to get his brother.

That shite was embarrassing and showed other schools and coaches how orgeron was going to operate.

I didn't say that. I was wondering how the LSU lockerroom would respond to that was my immediate thought. I don't think that the risk is worth the reward, personally. Kelly is restoring the program and building it to a level where it should be an honor for anybody in the portal to get a good look from the staff, because you obviously didn't commit to LSU out of high school. I think that when he gets a full roster, he won't be reaching out to people that he recruited that spurned LSU. Jacoby Matthews may get lucky. I don't think Denver Harris or Le'Veon Moss will get that chance.

Look at Wingo. He has been nothing short of amazing. He's like signing a ready to play 5 star. If we can get a couple players of that caliber via the portal every year. GREAT things are in store for LSU.

Oh yea poor lil ole Brian Kelly. I wish we could find someone who has experience in creating and sustaining a culture

BK doesn’t need “several years of consistency”. Anyone with a brain can see that the culture is created and here to stay. I’m not saying he should or shouldn’t take Denver Harris because no one on here really knows the kid to truly judge him, but if BK were to take him then I’m certainly not going to worry just because he hasn’t been at LSU for 4 years rather than 1. That’s some dumb corporate-think

Denver Harris has no chance of being accepted here

There’s literally video of Jayden Daniels having his locker trashed by his former teammates and everyone said he wouldn’t fit in.

We don’t know Denver Harris’s situation. He’s an 18 year old kid. If anyone can get him right, it’d be CBK.

Firstly, there are only 2 SEC teams with more players in the Pro Football HOF. Secondly, JSU leads all FCS in attendance, most Group of 5 and a lot of P5 and has well before Deion arrived. Lastly, that school and those players have done nothing but recruit at a level they are usually incapable of due to resources and have played great ball and garnered great exposure because of it even while facing adversity after adversity. What gives you the gall to constantly demean people who have not only done nothing to you but aren't even in the same conversation as LSU. I bet I know why, seek help guy!

talk about needing to seek help....bro you are taking a message board way way too seriously!!

Kelly knew him, which is what matters.

I said this last week and Kelly’s comments now make me believe it more: I don’t think Kelly is going to take character risks in the portal. He may go after some upperclassmen who have already shown themselves to be leaders, and he may go after some younger guys who he (or other staff members) recruited in high school.

I don’t think he will be going after young guys that have not previously been recruited by anyone in the staff, because in that case you have to make a character judgement with an extremely limited amount of data. You don’t have nearly as much time to get to know these players in the portal as you do when they’re in HS.

This may mean we pass on some opportunities in the short term, as we only have a few coaches who were recruiting in the SEC the last couple of years. For example: Corey Raymond was the primary recruiter for Denver Harris. I don’t see Kelly taking Raymond’s word for it. So is he going to roll the dice? I don’t think so.

OTOH, Frank Wilson and Kerry Cooks took over recruitment for Mathews, and Mathews had a visit in January after the new staff was in place. Different story, and they should have some feel for the kid’s personality/attitude.

“I think you have to be very careful because chemistry is still the one thing that can really upset a locker room. Finding the right guys and making sure they’re good teammates,” Kelly said. “Just because they’re talented doesn’t make them good teammates and you still have to have 11 guys that trust each other and are accountable to each other.

This is why I believe acquiring O-Lineman to fill a need/provide depth is the best use of the portal. O-lineman are generally not chemistry issue guys. Also, it is the hardest position to project future success due to them needing the most physical development at the college level. Due to it not being a headline grabbing position, its also where most of the recruiting services miss on the lower star players.

Let the first school develop the RS-Soph interior lineman and grab him after he is a proven high-floor, low risk player.

For instance, it's clear Kelly felt bringing in Daniels at QB, despite having a 6th year senior and highly recruited 2nd year QB (who considered leaving...which is why he skipped the bowl game) was worth the risk of those guys leaving the program.

Funny how the narrative that Jayden Daniels is a bad teammate has just disappeared since he’s been at LSU.

Maybe the guys that was cleaning out his locker and saying “he sucked anyway” were the shitty teammates.
