hindsight i know

but i remember at the end of last years recruiting cycle lsu was scrambling to fill the class up and the majority agreed that lsu should find a way to take a full class regardless of “stars” because next years class wasnt a guarentee

hate losing some of the these players

I disagree.

This is a unique year.

Coach O doesn’t have this pattern in previous years. We’ve never been competing over this many elite players before. It’s a result of on the field play. 2021 and 2022 players now know we can win the West and overcome Bama. So I don’t think this will happen. I bet many of these elite players wanted to see if we can get over that hump.

And here we are. Unique year. Not a pattern. Won’t hurt long term.

Completely agree. Being the absolute best, having the heisman winner, getting all the pub is causing us to have a completely transcendent and outlier recruiting year. I'm sure O really hates telling kids to look elsewhere but he really doesn't have a choice when 5 stars want in

Lol if you think cutting a player from Houston is going to cause an uproar, cut the kid from New Orleans, from the high school that produced the best player on defense & offense this year at LSU outside of burrow, along with many more players over the years and see how that community takes it. Not going to happen. But one of the other WRs will make moves

Ok now I will educate you. What defense do we run? 3-4. What position is Chiasson, Divinity, Thornton etc listed as? OLBs. Last I checked a LB is not a DL. So do you want to educate yourself or continue to look stupid? Your turn

One more time. Do try to read and understand this time.

Webb and Bryant are going to play the same position in a 3-4 defense. We run a 3-4 defense therefore we are likely replacing Bryant with Webb.

The only mistake here is your own. This really isn’t complicated.

yeah, it is doing whatever the exact opposite of falling is

we are about to have the best recruiting class we have ever had, we have become a national brand in recruiting on par with Bama, Clemson, and Ohio St, and you are talking about the sky falling? Sometimes really good players who you would die to get in the past you just don't have room for. Bama been there for years and never seems to slow them down or hurt them and it isn't going to hurt us

I chose to look stupid. Not a lot of difference between a 3-4 pass rush OLB, and a 4-3 weak side pass rushing DE coming out of high school

Lol dude we aren’t 7-4 and ranked in the bottom of the top 25 anymore. We’re number 1 in the country and will likely have a Heisman Trophy winner. If that doesn’t tell everyone in the country that we know how to manage a team and class then they can write themselves off anyway.

I doubt letting a kid go because we’re upgrading his position will do a damn thing if LSU wanted his buddy in the next class. Even so LSU recruiting is about to open up nation wide. LSU will be turning down more talent each class than most schools get into theirs. LSU was already a national brand and now even more so. Things like this are forgotten in weeks maybe months at best.

It's a big gamble, and don't fool yourself otherwise.

Processing 2-3 players a year (going from 3* to 4* or better) likely won't catch up to you. But Bryant has been committed forever and out there recruiting for LSU (and he's an outstanding player himself). Taking Gaye over him, for example, just seems foolish.

I'm personally not a big fan of this one. IF they did it on his senior evaluation fine. But don't think for a moment this does not have negative consequences. It will be used against us out on the trail and damage relationships.

Again, 2-3, maybe in a year is one thing, but flipping over half a dozen long time commitments is pretty daunting IMO.

Kids talk. The 5* DE from the 2021 class we are recruiting heavily is tweeting about it. The kids are aware that LSU will accept your commitment and continue to evaluate you until something better comes along even if you’re committed for a long time. I know everyone does it but doing it around the Houston area is dangerous. This cycle, we have gotten into the Washington DC area and Other areas we do not recruit as often. However, Houston is where our bread gets buttered in Texas. If you don’t think this will have an impact on the elite players in the Houston area for 2021, you are mistaken. The #1 ranking and Heisman trophy winner will pay dividends but it’ll only last so long in the what have you done lately word of recruiting. Sky isn’t falling but I think this one is gonna sting for a little while

I agree with you... not a fan of processing Byrant. Gaye and Taylor are lower risk players that could be processed with little to no damage. Bryant, on the other hand is about as high a risk as a new orleans or baton rouge kid.... and Bryant been out there recruiting for us.

Going from a 2* or 3* kid to a 4* or higher is one thing. But processing a very strong 4* player for another (especially given the above circumstances) to me in an unnecessary risk.

Have to believe coaches understand the risk of dropping committed recruits. Hopefully short term gains will not lead to long term consequences! IMHOO, both Lee and Bryant will become very good defensive players with power 5 teams

Man I love Bryant. I understand the process, but hate it for the guys that seem to be truly committed and all LSU.

Best of luck to him and hope he has a great college and NFL career.

Additionally, perhaps they should not have taken as many commitments as they did. It was easy to see they were over committing the DL anyways, hell I posted about this 6 months ago. And to start processing this late, less than 3 weeks is just poor management and taste IMO.

I'm totally on board with never getting stuck and LSU doing what's best for LSU. Processing is part of it, and I support it to a point. But, IMO, they are going a little overboard this year. Again, process Taylor (Kole) and Gaye first, not a kid that's a hella player and has been recruiting his arse off for you. (BTW, if this is on genuine evaluation, then disregard everything I've said on the matter).

Of course it's on evaluation. What else are they choosing players based on?

How do you tell recruits’ parents we’re family and you’re gaining a son and then tell them to take a hike 3 weeks before early signing period and not lose future credibility

Does Bryant have a brother we don't know about or something? Sure it upsets things with the immediate player and family, but this ripple effect is unfounded as long as it's a limited occurrence.

Right bc recruits/Houston high school coaches don’t talk or network. Y’all are delusional if you think this isn’t a complete contradiction of the original message and will have future repercussions period.

All these people who are mounted up on their moral high horse right now, will you do fist pumps when LSU lands a commitment from a better prospect? Because you can't have it both ways. You either want the best 25 or the first 25.

I for one would like to see LSU capitalize on this unique situation to the fullest. Coach O had a really good class put together but due to this magical season a lot of elite prospects started saying yes. All of the sudden a really good class had a chance to become historic.

So if you're Coach O and you have this once in a lifetime opportunity, what do you do? You take the best players you can. You do what is the best interest of the team, the school, and the state. This class has the chance to be a foundation on which something special is built.
