I'm sure most of these athletes get special treatment in high school. I don't understand how they can't make the grades to get into LSU (or a comparable school). I met some people when I was at LSU who I was certain couldn't even recite the alphabet and they managed to get in.

Depends on the school and it depends on the attitude of the student. Lot of factors that go in to "special treatment"

Not all high schools have the resources to help kids academically who really struggle. On top of that, some kids just bomb the ACT and it dooms them. Hopefully he can find a good JUCO and join the Tigers eventually.

Nobody said he was going to JUCO....just that he wasn’t signing TOMORROW. He will be in the class if/when his grades are there.

Correct. This is LSU not wanting to burn a spot that could potentially go to a grad transfer on a kid that won't qualify. Smart on their part.

Sad for the kid if true. His tweets revealed a true love for LSU.

Dexter Manly could not read, yet attended Oklahoma State for four years.

There are absolutely athletes at some of these programs that are reading at a 3rd/4th grade level. It is crazy how they get through school because of athleticism.

I have no doubt some can't recite the alphabet.

Looks like he and Crawford are both on the Justin Jefferson track.

With the new rules, this will be more and more common. I bet Craig Loston and Eddie Lacy would have gone this route as well, if the current rules were in place.

Hope they both get eligible by June!

Both he and crawford are trying to get their grades in order by august so they can join the team. Similar to Justin Jefferson how he was a late addition after signing day. A kid can still make up everything in summer school to qualify for college.

Can't we sign them and just "pull their LOI" to save the spot if they don't qualify like UGA did Evans?

You mean Not all kids grow up in a home where someone impresses upon them the value of actually getting the education that is there for them.

I've been watching local recruits the past few years... some kids who are 4.0+ at their schools who can't even get a 17 on the ACT while some other schools have a kid that's riding a 2.2 with a 27 ACT.

My son's struggling with his GPA due to a few classes with bad teachers. One that would give an overwhelming amount of homework where any incorrect or missing portion would result in an overall 0 so while he was As on his tests, he left the class with a D ... another who taught her class by showing them videos of herself teaching the material while she played on the phone Or the teacher who taught everything but what was in the test

He's borderline academically eligible now - with another school year to go he should be allright.

You've also got some kids who don't understand the core course requirements and are attending a school where the counselor doesn't look into that either. You can be academically ineligible due to not taking the correct number of core courses in the appropriate time frame. There's a LOT that goes into eligibility.

Here's to hoping CamRon is able to get done what he needs done!

in 1977 things were waaaaaaaayyy different in recruiting. Schools could sign an unlimited number of athletes which is why Oklahoma and Alabama dominated in the 60's and 70's.

Met him about 20 years ago. He didn't have any money left from NFL but his tiny wife was a damn good lawyer and rode his BBC.

Dexter was funny as hell too.

This is how they get through HS. The teachers cannot fail them and are told they must pass.
The parent(s) meet with the Principal and can take another test and make a C. Then they move on even though they can write a sentence nor use math in any form.

I personally know a kid who had all Fs his senior year. His highest grade point in any class was a 16.
Parents met with the principal, passed a retest, graduates. It is what it is.
