You commit to the school not the coach...Always

I've never really understood this idea. If you are going to play football, or any sport for that matter, doesn't the coach of the team you are playing for make a huge impact on where you choose? Not the entire decision obviously, but these guys aren't choosing a school and then saying "oh, there's a football program, I guess I'll give that a shot". The team is their primary decision driver, and the head coach obviously a part of that.

On the academic side, if a kid decided to go to LSU to be a petroleum engineer, and then LSU suddenly dropped the program, would we tell the kid "Well you choose the school, not the major, find something else to do"? Or would everybody understand if the kid left LSU and went somewhere else to find a better fit for his goals.

Lol Hate it for the kid? Why? Kid is going to college. No one did a damn thing to this kid. It’s getting to the point where he just sounds like an arrogant baby. Hes not in control of everything. A coach getting a job is not done sleight to him.

Yes, obviously.

But the kid also have to understand that the coach can leave at any moment.

I realize they are trying to make transferring easier for the kids, which is a good thing, but its still a pain in the arse.

So that is why it should be program first, then coach, especially if you are committing to a lesser program like CU where coaches use as resume builders.

why haven't kids learned this yet?
bc the ones who actually live it only do it once. They don't live it vicariously for decades where you can learn it after numerous failures.

You don't have to live through something to learn something.

On signing day, that job had literally just opened up. He wasn't lied to, his coach had an opportunity that he couldn't pass us, that's not the same thing...but I guess a 17 year old probably wouldn't know the difference.

I see it just the opposite, seems a kid from Louisiana would go to a place like Boulder because he fell in love with the area not the coach. How could a city kid from here not love Colorada?

He wasn't lied to.

The coach was given an offer that he couldn't refuse. I'm sure at the time they talked, he had every intention of staying.

Clayton has already shown a propensity to hold grudges and make decisions based on those emotions. That's a recipe for regret.

Athletes from New Orleans don't give a shite about Boulder, CO He chose Colorado because they promised him a lot, he got cocky and turned down better offers, and then his HC dipped out. I'd be upset too, but he kinda deserved it.

Boulder is a beautiful place. It’s very possible for a kid to fall in love with Boulder.

LSU fans are narrow minded when it comes to this.

"Commit to a school" is easy to say when you talk about the kids that LSU is in the running for.

LSU fights for kids against schools that are on firm grounding. If a coach leaves, they will maintain. So it is always repeated in our realm of recruiting, commit to a school commit to a school.

at a middling program like Colorado, you are risking a lot more when you commit to a school & a coach. Believing in that coach to turn things around. What Mel Tucker sells you, matters. Mel Tucker's race, it matters. Mel Tucker leaving before you even enroll in school, is heartbreaking.
