This is a little different. Leaves the school a week after signing day after assuring everyone he had no interest in leaving. I get if it's after your first season there but this isn't the same imo.

Is it the same kids getting recruited every year?

what? this is such a stupid statement. have you ever been to boulder? it doesn't even compare to baton rouge.

Mel made a business decision to benefit his own position.

The recruits should “respect his decision”

Pretty sure they know what that means

I have worked in Boulder and spent a lot of time there. It’s awesome I mean BR isn’t even on the same level. Anyone who thinks BR is a better place to live than Boulder is down right ignorant.

He should fall in love with Boulder. It's incredible.

Yes we should take Ashaad Clayton. You don't pass on talent and this kid has it.

I've never really understood this idea. If you are going to play football, or any sport for that matter, doesn't the coach of the team you are playing for make a huge impact on where you choose?

The obvious answer is that you simply don't control if or how long that coach is going to be around.

It's like choosing a school based on your high school sweetheart. You only own half of that relationship. You can't make her love you and can't make her stay with you. It's foolish to make a decision based on things you can't control.

So, of course coaches make a difference. Of course they are important. But, anyone with half of a brain would know that a top coach at a middle tier school is a risk to leave.

Mel Tucker leaving before you even enroll in school, is heartbreaking

Of course it is. And, that's a reasonable emotion for him. But, it doesn't address in the slightest whether he was "lied to".

A kid from the west bank might not be as into day hikes and micro brews as you.

I have to agree that Boulder is one of the best places to live and go to school for 4 years in the country. I'm not sure there is a better experience at a major university to be honest.

Commit to where you want to grow as a young man and athlete. Never commit to a person. That’s what I’ve always told my players.

The irony in all this is Tyron Johnson on an episode of QB1 went to Warren Easton to tell all the kids there (Clayton included) about how LSU duped him basically and the WR coach left after he signed so watch out for us. Then Clayton signs with Colorado and his HEAD coach leaves.

So the WR coach left after he signed AND he was duped? Or was he duped because the WR coach left after he was signed?

Clayton will have options if he feels he doesn't want to be there anymore. He's got a perfect application for a ln immediate eligibility waiver

Reading this thread it seems some of you guys forget we are talking about 17-18 year old young men here. They aren't always mature enough to make grand decisions like this on their own and many put a ton of trust in the people recruiting them. It's completely reasonable for the kid to be upset.

Are kids should commit to a school but some situations aren't as cut and dry as that. These kids are sold on a program, coaching staff and style, and vision of the coaches recruiting them. When that suddenly all changes in an instant, it's understandable that a teenager would be upset. If coaches weren't a major part of the recruitment process then they wouldn't tout their accomplishments(winning, pro players etc) so much. The coaches are selling themselves as much as the program. So while necessarily purposely lied to, I'm sure Tucker told those kids he wasn't leaving.
Personally think Tucker made a bad decision. MSU has some major shite going on there and likely to be hammered by the NCAA. I'd have stayed in Colorado where expectations are less, the conference is winnable and there's no penalties hanging over its head. At the current time, Colorodo is a better job. It's not like MSU is a huge step above Colorodo as a program.
