I strongly suspect i have a leak in my in ground pool somewhere by the rate its been losing water over the last few months.
anyone have a reputable person to diagnose where the leak is coming from and to fix within the new orleans/metairie area?

Try a bucket test. Put a bucket of water on your steps. Fill even with the pool. Wait a couple days. If the levels stay the same it’s just evaporation. It has been dry lately so that could be it. If your pool gets lower than the bucket, you have a leak.
I had a leak around one of my skimmers. There is a 2 part epoxy putty that you can apply around the seam between your skimmer and the pool. It’s cheap and easy. The guy found it with some food coloring in a syringe. Just put a few drops and see if the dye migrates. Obviously your water has to be calm and pumps off.

I've got this post bookmarked from another thread on here.
Haven't had to try to call him yet but it's worth a try.

I would further add to skidry's excellent advice to do the bucket test with both the pool pump running continuously and then again with the pump off for a long time...that way you can see if the leak is in the pool floor or walls or in the piping from the pool to the pump
IMO the 2nd worst thing a leak in the piping is that they will bring a ground radar device out to find the leak and charge you $7 to $900 for the search...and the leak is usually within a couple of feet of where the pipe enters the skimmer or return jet (i.e. takes them about 10 minutes to fine).
The worst part of the leak is when they tear up the concrete around the leak to fix and the patch job never matches the original cement.

I know I’m not leaking. But the last couple of weeks the evaporation has been rapid. Hot and pretty dry. Especially now with the dry wind

Lots of leaks happen at the spider gasket at your jandy valve. If you don’t have any obvious signs of damage to your liner or gunite, nothing dripping at your equipment, and no wet spots in your yard, I would replace the spider gasket first

ive had American Leak Detection out twice. They found the first one pretty easily with sonar. This one has given them a hard time. They wont be able to find it. Id go with them for pressure leaks or obvious light or skimmer leaks.

This should be easily diagnosed by removing the waste line and seeing if there is water coming out of the waste fitting with the pump on when it should not be.

yes im going to try that this weekend but its just confirmatory step at this point. im losing about 2-3 inches of water (height along walls) day. my real next test it to see if it stops draining at any particular point.
did the food coloring migrate quickly when doing that test? Did he just drop food coloring where suspected leaks were?

thanks. i'll probably wind up giving him a call to see if he is still in the business.

American Leak Detection. Pricey but they’ve helped me a few times.

I would think that is a significant enough amount that would have soft spots in the yard/area surrounding the equipment, or wherever the leak is? Especially with it being so dry last couple weeks. do you have a significant amount of concrete decking in the layout?

Yes. He went to every penetration and squirted it around them

No need for the bucket test. You have a major leak. No signs of water in the surrounding area?

Nothing visible. The pool is surrounded by concrete and I don’t see any areas around the pumps that seem saturated

negative. ill be calling a guy as recommended here as this is more than likely out of my realm to fix.

Wally’s leak
Cheap, salt of the earth guy that you’d meet in a hole in the wall bar, won’t screw your over. I had three leaks. I hired one company who came out in scuba gear and over charged twice. The last time, Wally came out and I’ve been fine ever since.
