Use edger every couple months. Use weedeater other than that.

Better at using a weedeater than edger, keep those edges sharp. Edger does a good job of not letting the dirt look all trashy and gives a dirt edge.

The real question is how much edging do you have to do?

If it's alot definitely go with the steel blade edger with a wheel. It will save your back and arms and I find it quicker since it just rolls along the ground. You don't really have to support any weight.

If you only have a couple hundred feet of edging then this won't matter to you. I have probably 700-800 feet to do so the edger saves me alot of trouble

Edge and weedeat with my echo 58v electric weedeater. Does great, even on my corner lot with sidewalks. I edge, if I had to guess, probably 350 ft of sidewalks and roads. The echo battery handles them well

If I have to really cut an overgrown edge, I use the edge attachment. If I'm just doing maintenance on an established edge, I use the weedwhacker.

I have the echo pas with the trimmer, edger and I have limb trimmer(pole saw) as well. Starts everytime. Meanwhile, the stihl blower I purchased and is only 3yrs old needed a carb replacement. It’s a finnicky fricker....

Highly recommend the echo, but don’t buy that bitch from Home Depot. Find a local place.

My weedeater has adjustable rotating head for edging. It gets the job done.

I have a black and decker with two rechargable batteries and it works great. Has a wheel to where you can rotate to weed eat or edge. Less than 100 bucks I believe.

It really depends on how much you use it or how much area you have to do. I don't recommend a weak battery powered blower, though.

Get it started with an edger. Maintain with trimmer. Touch up with edger if need be.

this

I use the edger about once a month

I mow/weed eat every week, so the other times I just use the weedeater to keep maintained till time I edge

I have both and always use the edger. It is SOOOO much easier than the trimmer.

Edging with a string trimmer is an artform. I'm not perfect, but I cut so many yards when I was a teenager I'm pretty good even now. Some people hack it up.

Flip side to that is you're using it more so you're less likely to run into gummed up carbs. I used mine pretty much year-round.

I've mastered using my weedeater as an edger, so I don't see a reason to incur the expense, even though I love buy new outdoor equipment.

I have the Echo pas225 and I’ll use the edger every other month then the weed eater for my weekly trimming. Also Trufuel has worked very well.

I own an edger that I got for free from my neighbor. It had a fouled spark plug and bad gas in it. Tried to give it back but he opted for a lawn service (he's an elderly man). I've run non ethanol gas since then, going on 7 years now, and there is nothing like the edge that a bladed edger can provide. I live on a corner lot, so I have plenty of street exposure to deal with. I suppose I could just run with the stringer edger once the edge is set, but find the strings get worn down a lot when hitting the pavement. Anyway, I opt for a separate edger.

Used a stick edger on driveways and sidewalks when I was cutting grass professionally. I use my weedeater 95% of the time, and I have a walk-behind edger. As long as you keep the edge clean, you can do it just as well (and fast) with a weedeater

Appreciate everybody’s input. I ended up getting what I linked. Even if I only use the edger once a month, it’ll be worth it to me to clean up the look.

It depends on the user. My neighbor only uses a string trimmer, and he puts a nicer edge than I do with my edger. I am rubbish with the string trimmer as an edger.
