Maytag Centennial. Removed the bolt but when I pull up on the agitator it feels and sounds like something else is blocking it from being removed. All the videos I’ve seen of this exact model says to remove that one bolt.
Most of the things I’ve read says the main problem most of the time is gunk that has glued the agitator down. But I can lift on all the sides of the wash plate. So it’s not that.
I’ve used a strap tied to a board to try and pry it off but the wash plate starts cracking. Wife said a coin got stuck down there a few weeks ago. Could that be what’s causing all of this? Or is there possibly another secret bolt I’m missing?

Mine was stuck like that a few years ago. I just kept rocking it back and forth until it finally came loose. Even if you break the agitator, it’s not that expensive to replace.

Wish I could help. I removed the agitator on a Whirlpool after watching several videos. My model and those in the videos all had just the one bolt, and mine slid right out after the bolt was removed.

Mine was sticky getting the two pieces of the agitator apart after the whole unit was removed. This is apparently common, and it can take a good bit of force or even mallet taps to get them apart.

Is your agitator two pieces? If so and you are trying to replace the agitator dogs, you may be able to just pop the top half off and get the job done without removing the base piece.

It’s one piece. And I’ve seriously debated on just breaking it and replacing it. Probably much cheaper than a repair man.

You trying to clean it out?

My Speed Queen has some gunk below where you put the fabric softener. I can take the top cylinder, where the fabric softener goes, off and clean it in my sink. I guess I need to pull the whole agitator up, and out to clean the inside of it. I like to sprinkle baking soda over my towels, and white things. I think some it has fallen into where the fabric softener goes, ans drained down with the softener.

Will check out YouTube before attempting.

No not trying to clean it. Clothes won’t spin and I think the wash plate doesn’t move with the rest of the drum. So trying to take it out and reset it.

It’s now illegal to remove an agitator, they have rights.

Look close, there is more than likely a retaining ring on the shaft that is preventing you from removing it. It might be covered in gunk and you might not see it. Scrape around with a screw driver and see if you can find it

I had the exact same issue on a Maytag last year. We had one of those home warranties that came with our house so I had them try and they couldn’t get it either. So they gave me a check to get a new one. The guy said he had seen it a few times and it basically welds itself to the bottom.

There should be a quarter inch hex head screw around the base of the agitator post. Loosen that screw in addition to the one down the middle and it will come right out. If you don’t know it’s there, you’ll never see it because of where it’s positioned

LINK

You’ll see it around 1:02 in the video

If it won’t spin, try resetting the motor before you start tearing it apart
YouTube has multiple videos showing how to reset the motor to fix a no spin condition. I didn’t believe it until I tried it. And Ive done it twice
