After market power tool batteries

For a home owner my choice for power tools is Dewalt. Had really good luck so far with them. My 20 volt leaf blower battery finally crapped the bed It's a 10 ah battery, charge use to last a while. Looking at the big box stores the price for a replacement is a bit over $200.
Anyone have luck with after market batteries? Are there ones to stay way from?

The generic brand Chinese battery backs will use recycled/upcycled used cells. May have reduced capacity, life span, voltage drops or all of the above. It's a crap shoot.

I saw a thread for Ego replacement batteries a while back and some reported some pretty good results. You may want to try to search that one up.

I own a LOT of Dewalt batteries, 20V and Flexvolt, and wouldn't risk replacing one with some off-shore 3rd party. There's a reason why they are so much cheaper; the often use recycled cells, lower grade cells, wrong battery management chips, and lower quality build quality. Not going to risk a fire just to save some money.

I ended up buying a Dewalt with a 8 mah battery for around ~200 and then sold the Ego blower to a guy who had the batteries already. OP it might be worth doing that.

I use the Ryobi 18v and 40v
I have bought the Amazon replacement batteries for both and have had zero issues. I have a ton of the 18v tools and use them everyday.
I have a 40v blower, weed wacker and leaf vac that I use to clean up inside my pool cage. They last a while.

I run my Dewalt drill and driver on the cheap ones. Functions the same just doesn't last as long on a single charge.
I don't leave them on the charger longer than is needed to top them off and If I'm not going to need them for awhile not even then. Longer term storage is best not at 100%.

At a 1/3 of the price, it's probably worth it. I've been using Craftsman knock offs for over a year with no issues in the mower or other devices. 8 amp batteries for $33 that are already stateside and arrive in 4-5 days worked for me.

Bought a four-pack of cheap Dewalt compatible batteries. They wouldn’t fit in the charger correctly, you had to wiggle them around and fix them just-so to get the charging started. Disgusted, I sent them back without ever putting them in a tool.

My results have been decent. Not as good as the name brand but gets the job done. As someone else said, the fit can be slightly off but I didn’t have to wrestle them or anything.

Look for cheaper or on sale versions of other big brand OEM batteries and use a DeWalt adapter?

Don't ever buy third party and watch for counterfeits. They don't have the built in safeties to shut off if they have a problem. That's what causes most of the house fires attributed to lithium batteries.

I"m a frugal arse mufer, but even I won't entertain the idea of laying in bed wondering if I took the knockoff dewalt battery off the charger.

I was in this same boat about a year ago. Figured it was worth just seeing if off brand batteries were worth it and bought a set of four 8ah 20v batteries from Amazon for like $80 total. A single Dewalt 8ah battery goes for $100+.
I've been happy with them and no issues so far with performance, charging, or compatibility.

I bought an Amazon battery adapter to use my rigid batteries on Bauer tools for when I want a tool I won’t use a whole lot. It works awesome!

Milwaukee's batteries have a datalogging function that is very detailed, you blow up a tool with a 3rd party battery or break a charger and try to get it warrantied by blaming an OEM battery then they will figure it out.

Dewalt has a new two-bank 32-amp total fast charger coming out, I damn sure wouldn't trust a Chinese knockoff battery to survive 16-amp fast charge...

I've had very good success with getting them rebuilt by MTO Battery. The rebuilt ones last longer than the original. They rebuild all types
