I enjoy my current gym since it is a short distance from my house and I can get a workout in during my lunch break but for the last few months it has been increasingly more busy. This is a great thing for the gym since they are increasing their revenue but for someone who is following a strict workout plan it can be a pain in the arse. The entire 90 minutes while I was in the gym the flat bench press stations were occupied, there are only 3 at this location and they used to be generally available during the lunch hour.

I would go in the afternoon but I have errands to run and the gym gets even more crowded in the afternoon. It is a 24 hour fitness location and they've got some great amenities but it has been really tough to find bench and squat stations unoccupied lately.

If you have the room for a home gym, then I would go that route. Takes time and money, but you can get what you want and you can also find some deals on FB Marketplace.

Do your bench work on the last day of your workout week. Everyone does bench on Monday

The PPSA Elbow Meat program calls for bench on Monday, Wednesday and Friday but you're right

Ah, my bad. Not sure why I assumed you did a bro split.

Sounds like you need to start going in before work then.

Can you just sub dumbbell bench for barbell on days the barbell flat bench is unavailable? Or swap the order in which you hit flat bench during your workout?

I mean, most gyms you go to if your lifting hour is lunch are going to be packed, and if you're trying to hit flat barbell bench 3 times a week you're gonna run into availability problems.

Once you go Home Gym, you never go back.

This post brings me back to frustrations of not being able to get a open squat rack in an entire workout and idiots wasting time on their phone sitting on a bench in the rack.

You need to go before work. I go at 3AM every morning due to my schedule and I have the entire gym to myself for about an hour.

Depends on what all “amenities” you actually need and use. If you’re there for the weights and the weights are being used I’d find another gym.
Sticking to a fitness routine and schedule is hard enough with a career and a family. I’m not going to let the gym dictate my schedule.

Us too. Game changer. What used to take 1.5 hours is now an hour. Between sets I can load weights on the next ones and have them ready to go.

With PPSA it is really simple and the majority of lifts center around a squat rack, bench and dumbbells. I'm going to try a different time tonight to see if it improves at all.

that's when.

joking aside, it sounds like you have pretty good reason. that would be the deal breaker for me. overly busy. i like my current gym because the times i go have some people so i dont feel like im in isolation but rarely am i waiting long for an piece of equipment. if i went to purposely workout a certain body system and couldn't that would screw my whole weekly schedule up. real pain in the arse. if it happened multiple times a week it would make having a set program aggravating.

Yesterday I went at a pre-peak time and was able to find a bench but my workout pulled me off of a bench for a few sets before needing to do some close-grip bench press sets. Some jackass had his bag under a bench and the bar loaded but decided to walk off for 10 minutes. One of the trainers at the gym also needed a bench but waited exactly 60 seconds before throwing his stuff off to the side and racking his own weight.

as would i. you got a couple minutes to walk away from a piece of equipment, mostly if you're super setting. after 2-3 minutes that's now mine if i want it. You also shouldn't superset if its a very busy time, or be willing to lose a piece of equipment. If i am in a middle of a set and someone takes the equipment im not using right tat that moment i call em a dick in my head but its the price you pay.
