What percentage ground beef do you buy?

I always feel like I'm the only one at the store buying the 96/4 beef
I use it for everything. Even burgers.
I can't believe the people who buy 70/30 or 75/25.

the fattest i can find, which is never over 85 or so unfortunately. need to go to a butcher. bunch of dumb low-fat mofos.
i cringe when i see people seeking out low-fat stuff in the store (I'm a house husband who does most of the shopping--I'm a grocery store aficionado), thinking they're being all healthy. they're usually overweight of course.

I buy half a cow at a time (one's arriving tomorrow!). I assume that's the fullest fat you can get. Why would anyone get the lower fat versions?

I mean, why?

Either ground chuck or ground sirloin. Really doesn't matter.

I mean, the lower fat stuff has less calories per lb. So if you are counting calories, it's beneficial. And ultimately weight loss is caloric deficit. It's not because you reduce the fat per se (as in the fact that it is fat is inherently bad), but fat contains more calories per lb so reducing it lets you eat the same amount.
Plus, for certain things it's just much nicer not having to deal with a greasy mess. Burgers on the grill, I just get high fat meat. Spaghetti or something on the stove, I go for low fat and Turkey so I'm not left straining grease. Granted the dishes I usually use low fat stuff on have sauces, so drying out isn't a huge deal.

Half cow here, too.
Ground beef is always a surprise; sometimes it's super lean and others it's quite fatty.

Just go keto. It's much better for fat loss.

no its not. same as anything else.
to answer OPs questions, I buy quarter cow usually and get 85/15.
Why does it matter what others are buying? Everyone has different macros. If it fits theirs, let them have the better tasting version.

Where do you buy Bison or Elk?
I love Elk but can only find it online and it's so expensive

just depends on the area you are from. Look on Eat wild or hit up a local farmers market.

Yea for many its much easier to adhere to so it makes sense that away. But it doesn't burn any extra fat, well i should say it makes very little difference as there are some small thermogenic advantages, but in the grand scheme it makes very little difference.

Yeah I get that. I often buy grass-fed ground meat (I hate gf steaks), and it's typically leaner. It's totally fine.
My cringing was much more over fat-free processed foods + skim milk, no-fat yogurt, etc. It's not a judgment of the shopper but the BS marketing that tells people cutting fat is a good way to lose weight.

I've bought from a few different farmers, and it's usually based on hanging weight.
Guy I'm buying from now is $4.50/lb hanging, and I take anything I can get (bones, organs, oxtail, fat, everything).
One thing I can tell you is that every farmer I've tried has had different tasting meat. I only buy grass-fed and the bullshite you hear about grass-fed having inferior taste is because the farmer sucks. My newest farmer's grass fed meat is absolutely fantastic.
I've gotten to the point where it's about much more than the meat. It's a real relationship. The farmer (at least in part) relies on my orders to support his household; the meat he raises feeds my family. My kids have been to his farm and seen the animals.
