I am a HUGE critic of Crossfit. That being said, with the proper instruction, it is a viable training program.

I have never seen that done. Have never touched a tire.

My thread was about older people and crossfit, not people that are in shape. I agree, it can be beneficial, like anything with strenuous activity.

No Grandma is doing that though. And if they are, well kudos to them.
All the Grandmas is my gym do 12” step ups for box jumps.

Good gyms and coaches won't let people do that sort of thing without that person having proven that they're capable. I promise if you go to a good gym for a month you'll change your tune. CrossFit is filled with people just trying to get healthier and in better shape. The nutso shite you see during the Games and competitions most people don't ever do.

I'm sure you're right. The problem i see around monroe and other places is people opening up a cross fitness gyms that have no business doing so. I see them in business, running people down the road and a couple months later there's a for sale sign and abandoned building where it once stood. I can't help to chuckle when I drive by.

You have probably seen this happen once.

Your opinion means nothing to me.

So you assume that when a business closes it is because the purpose of the business is the problem?
Could it be that the proprietor was just a bad business guy?

Which crossfit gym specifically?
Couple more comments: You ever notice how most (if not all) of these "crossfit fails" are either at home, at a regular gym or occur outside of a coached class?
Also, who hates on older people staying fit?

Anybody getting hurt or doing something stupid while working out is always Crossfit.
Even if it’s at Planet Fitness.
These are just the hard facts.

Yeah, I've changed my mind, crossfit just gets a bad rap. Y'all have convinced me otherwise.

In re: Kipipng pull-ups or even lkpping dips, most of the crossfit movements are focused on a total body movement, which is more realistic and functional.
If you were hanging off the side of a building holding on for your life, you would not try a strict pull-up to get yourself up. You would hopefully use any means necessary to get yourself up, so why not practice that?
Very very very little if anything in crossfit is focused on singling out a particular body part. But as the other poster mentioned, strict pull-ups as well as other strict movements are done for accessory/strength not in incorporated into a workout.

Go talk to Bart B at CrossFit West Monroe. He will set you straight and he’s running a very successful business.

While the OP is a moron and I agree with your and the other CFers’ take.... completely disagree with this. If you’re hanging off a building you couldn’t kip. You’d just be humping the side of the building.
I see the value in CrossFit immensely but a proper pull-up is more practical than a kip.

Agree 100%. No kipping. I’m sure it plays a role but do a real pull up.
Posted on 3/21/19 at 7:21 pm to TnMountaineer
Again. Different movements.
Never heard someone tell a lifter to not do a push press because it wasn’t a real press.
Having the strength to pull yourself up from a dead hang is absolutely valuable.
But so is having the strength and knowledge on using your entire body to build momentum.
