But they are all "classified" as pull ups. That's why I said they were abominations. Even the hippies of working out (calisthenics) don't like them.

Only in competitions

We do strict pull ups all the time. They will always specify on the goal.

They are for the competitions for show. They are more dynamic, showey, and you can do more. Nobody wants to watch strict pull ups. Those other pull ups are not efficient for strength or muscle growth and have a higher chance of injury.

Right.

But nobody is arguing that kipping or butterfly are for muscle growth. That is why strict is programmed.

Kipping/butterfly is a lot of cardio. It’s like cycling light weight.

I just feel they shouldn't even be done for any maximal criteria like time and amrap. Getting sloppy on those can be terrible for the eccentric portion of the lift. I could see many shoulder and ligament problems.

I know there are always risks in competition but some exercises are just not needed. Even in strong man, there are some completely unnecessary lifts like that squat where you have to lean over to pick it up.

It’s definitely an explosive movement that shouldn’t be done if you don’t know what you are doing.

The majority of people can’t do the butterfly pull-ups that you see at competitions FWIW

Most either do strict or kipping.

LOL at old people doing snatch and cleans and paying an "instructor" to make them run down a busy highway.
Why? I love it.

Common sense goes directly out the window having grandma snatch and clean 200 pounds
This doesn't happen.

This is what I'm talking about. I think it's criminal for a "trainer" to allow someone to do that

My argument is for people like the pic above, not younger in shape people.

Why can't they? It would improve blood circulation, bone density, stretch out muscles, put fluid back in joints....

Yeah, if they do it on their own or with a bad coach.

Golf injures people more often than any other form of exercise.

If you take sedentary people and they put their body in motion, shite does not work right.

As an orthopedic PA I would think you would support everyone staying active in just about any form.

Throwing a baseball is like the single worst activity your arm can do. Let’s get rid of baseball/softball

And we can’t let out of shape people get hurt, so let’s get rid of every “boot camp” at every gym across the country because I see way more people get injured with just that and “simple movements” than anything

Flipping a tire is a better workout for functional movement than almost anything you will do at a “regular” gym.

The amount of ignorance you have displayed in this thread is truly incredible.

Yes, he shows a picture of a really healthy looking lady damn near 70 doing an activity her non active peers could never dream of as if it is some kind of gotcha moment. I would only pray that I stay active enough to do those activities at that age, and if I hurt myself so be it...at least I fought off Father Time for a bit., Better than chair aerobics and walking the mall but not being able to lift a chainsaw, mow my grass or open jar of pickles as I whither away and keel over.
