And you can only bench 135? You are 20-30 lbs overweight minimum.

Give me something to compare against? How much do you weigh and can bench?

I don't bench because it aggravates my shoulder, but a guy your size of average strength should be able to do probably 215

I get it but you asked for a shortcut where there isn’t one on a board dedicated to the grind. Think about going to the golf board and asking if there’s a quick way to shoot even par.

ETA: everyone is on their own path. I don’t measure and weigh my food and never heard of a macro before lsu777 asked you. Using the BMI chart I’m right on the cutoff between healthy and overweight but I had creeped up about 10-13 lbs over that during Covid and made some changes to get right. My method works for me - if I want to make it more intense I’ll maybe start implementing some of the stuff others on the board are doing. If you want to lose weight and get stronger you need to be intentional about it whatever that means to you. No half measures. No shortcuts.

You have to start somewhere. I was stuck in the 225-255 range for a while in my mid 30s until changing up my routine which got me to 275 and, eventually, 335.

Yes you are 30lbs overweight and you need to focus on getting stronger and being in a caloric deficit.

As far as what to compare to, I'm 38 weigh 195ish and bench 275 last time. I can range what you bench and overhead press it for 8-10 reps.

Because there are no shortcuts!

Everyone here that is giving you advice and a 'hard time' is doing it because they have done those things and know that it works.

If you aren't willing to make a diet plan, weigh and track all of your food (also, cut out booze for a while) then you are going to fail.

There are no quick fixes. Even on steroids. You have to put in the work.

Okay Fox, I see you posting in the daily thread so I’m gonna assume you’re not trolling and are legitimately just a novice looking for advice. So I’m going to play devils advocate here and not agree with the things being said in this thread to see if I can help you out.

First, “get big quick” ain’t gonna happen. If that’s really your goal, which I don’t believe it is, nobody can help you it’s impossible even with steroids and the most ridiculous programming ever.

Assuming you’re just trying to improve your physique and strength, I strongly disagree with the notion in this thread that for you (or anyone) to be ‘not obese’ or physically fit or strong you have to ditch your lifestyle, track your macros, stop drinking alcohol, get on a structured program, pray to a different god, whatever. And I also strongly disagree with hitting a gym/fitness newbie with that kind of info. To do all that takes a level of mental discipline and training that nobody is going to be at when they first decide to start taking health and fitness seriously. I meet new people in the gym all the time that can’t get over that hurdle; they’ve hired a trainer, they’re tracking their macros, they’re on an obscenely complicated program and after a week I never see them again. It’d be like stepping on a college campus and saying “I want to be an engineer!” and your advisor is like “alright well, to do that you’ve gotta know all the math so I’ll put you in Cal IV and DE this semester good luck!” You’ll quit after the first class and say you could never do that. Nah man...let’s start with algebra and see where that gets us.

You weigh 200 lbs and can’t lift what 130 lb high school soccer players put up in the weight room. No offense, most of the country is in the same category, just pointing out that it isn’t gonna take much to get you much stronger.

Ditch the programs, ditch the macros, let’s start simple and work from there. Go to the gym AT MINIMUM 3 x week with a bro split. Chest and tri’s day one, legs day 2, back and bi’s day 3. If you wanna go more, great, tear it up. Hit some abs and cardio day 4. Shoulders day 5. Just makes sure you get the core 3 every week.
Try to eat better. Don’t track your macros (certainly can if you’re so inclined but I promise you can get stronger and leaner without having a clue what your macros are). Just friggin think about it. Try to go with protein heavier options for meals. Eggs for breakfast. Cant do eggs? Sausage biscuit. No sausage? Biscuit with peanut butter. No peanut butter? Eat a muffin or skip, whatever, try again tomorrow. Just actually put thought into it. Get grilled chicken sandwich a chick filet instead of fried. Take a pass on fourth meal and ice cream every once in a while. shite like that.
Supplements? You don’t need them right now, they are like the sanding stage of your wood working project and right now we’re still holding a chainsaw in the forest. The only one I would recommend is a protein shake or two as snacks between breakfast and lunch/lunch and dinner because assuming you aren’t tracking macros, it’s very easy to assume you aren’t getting enough protein. Don’t add the shake to a meal. Do it between meals.
If you drink, don’t worry about knocking booze off. Will it help? Yup, bigly. But in no way will it keep you from the goals you’ve stated.
Stick with this for a couple months and I guarantee you’ll see progress. Hell, you’ll feel it within a few weeks. Then once you’re comfortable with this, you can graduate to sophomore classes. Once you build up momentum in this lifestyle the changes come quickly. But it ain’t easy to get started and that’s where most people give up.

It’s not all or nothing. Yes, all of these folks’ recommendations will get you to your results much more quickly than what I’m recommending, IF you actually do it. You’re also much more likely to flame out in two weeks and get zero results. You don’t have to train like you’re shooting for a 300 lb bench press and 6 pack abs to see results. Tortoise and hare, and what not.

No such thing. It takes time and consistency. And includes a diet to help maximize your workouts.

Also its somewhat like speed. Some are born with it. You can enhance it but not create it.
