Ozempic - Semaglutide/GLP-1

After ~12 years of willpower, diet, and exercise, I still haven't reached my goal of 220lb (6'2). As I sit today, I am 275lb. For those unfamiliar with my journey, started at ~363lb in 2011. My lowest ever weight was 247lb in 2019. I bounce up and down a LOT. My hunger is off the rails. Even eating 2400-2600cals/day, I'm hungry all day. After my workouts I eat lunch, and after that I'm usually ready for another meal ~1.5 - 2hrs later. Side note, I have hashimotos thyroiditis, but I am medicated and my medication has been stable for ~2 years.
Many of you have been around for a lot of my journey, and I figured I would bring you all along for the next iteration. I expect some flak for "lack of willpower" or whatever, not concerned about it.
After much deliberation with my GP and endocrinologist, scouring the web for trusted authorities' opinion on the drug, and for average people's experiences, I decided to green light my GP's recommendation of getting on Ozempic.
What is Ozempic?
Ozempic is Semaglutide. A diabetic drug recently approved for obesity treatment (note: Ozempic hasn't been approved for obesity, but Semaglutide under another name,Wegovy, has). The long-and-short of it is that it enhances insulin sensitivity & slows gastric emptying, keeping you satisfied/full for much longer and making weight loss much easier.
How is it dosed?
Once a week, dermal needle injection into abdomen or thigh. Usually start on a light dose and titrate up.
Is it safe?
It certainly seems so, however it's not extremely well-studied. I am taking a risk here, no doubt.
Is it effective?
There was a landmark study early in 2021 that showed incredible results for participants who exercised and dieted consistently. Those that did not diet and exercise saw little change. This drug is a tool this specifically seems to aid those who are serious about wanting to put in the work.
The Plan
I currently exercise 4 days/week in the form of CrossFit classes. I have done this since Oct. 2017. My diet is mostly fine from a nutrition perspective (as in the composition of meals), I just tend to eat way too much because I'm perpetually hungry and haven't been tracking, and most of the weight gain has come in the last 6 months, which have been pretty brutal and stressful. Drinking will be reduced to 1-2 drinks/week. I'm going to continue my exercise regimen and get started tracking caloric intake.
Today was day 1. I anticipate making weekly updates, but I have a bad memory.
Day 1 stats (from my bathroom scale):
274.9lb
33.6% body fat
34.2% body fat
BMI 35.5
In addition, my gym just got an inbody machine and I took an inbody scan:
I plan to take another in 3 months.

I took it last year and it definitely helped but when I titrated up, it caused the horrible heartburn/reflux. Try to stay away from acidic foods and drinks.

I went from completely a sedentary 220 to 170 with Ozympic and working out 4 days a week
It completely eliminates your appetite

Thanks. That sucks, I eat a lot of acidic food lol
I feel like even on day 1 I was way less hungry. But maybe just psychosomatic

1 week done.
272.9lb
I noticed a reduction in hunger, but not as drastic as I'd thought. I still get plenty hungry, but it doesn't feel so urgent anymore. The hunger doesn't consume my brain anymore, and I don't feel bad if I'm hungry for a while. I feel like a normal person.

Are you diabetic or pre-diabetic? Have you been on metformin?
Posted on 1/6/22 at 9:50 am to Irregardless
Not diabetic, not been on metformin. Pre-diabetic, maybe. I have had blood sugar problems in the past when I was close to 400lb, and I suspect I have been having those issues again. Sometimes after seemingly innocuous workouts I feel terrible, or if I don't eat at mealtime I get clammy, shaky, panicky.
Fasting blood sugar is always fine though.

I'm not a doctor but it sounds like it could be blood sugar issues. And best of luck.

How did this pan out?
A bunch of ladies I work with are shredding weight like crazy with it.
One down 16 pounds in a week.
Another down 40 pound in about a month.

Yea this drug has been running rampant with girls in HS and soccer moms on the Northshore in recent months. Its become the weight loss designer drug

It for sure crashes your metabolism so you better be strong and disciplined when you get off it.

I have been prescribing this like crazy. It works, but not as well as Mounjaro.
Hopefully it gets FDA approval for obesity in the coming months.

Can you suggest some literature or studies that have convinced/led you to prescribe this like crazy?

Same here in Bham. My neighbor has lost close to 100 lbs. Another neighbor, close to 50.

If this is working so well, how long before they pull it from the market?

na they like people to lose fat and pay out the arse for it to big pharma.
I love GLP-1( i dont use them) for fatloss for many people, but understand those stomach problems can be no joke if you try and keep same type of carb rich/fat heavy meals. Will frick you up.
and yea plenty of people losing 100+ out there from these which is awesome.
