Great weather here in TX came on a rest day, however I did take a walk at lunch and did weights outside. Only downside right now is the WNW winds at 27mph with gusts in the 30's.
Weather this weekend will be awesome and can't wait.

Yup, Sunday am long run will be ideal.

5 mile hill run tonight. Legs felt dead after intervals last night but still managed 9:38/mile with an average HR of 174. About to drink some beer with the wife.

7 miles at a comfortable 8:45/mile pace. This is the kind of weather I live for!

The weather is going to be perfect for a long, slow 12 tomorrow morning. Can't wait!
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

ditto... but 3 miles. 8 AM work call
i don't know if y'all are getting the same wind i am but it kinda detracts from the nice cool days when it's 50 degrees (perfect running weather) but also accompanied with a 20+mph wind.

11 miles this AM at a 9:10 pace. A little slower than normal, but we had 600’ of climb today. I had 1900’ of climb this week. Think that covers hills for the month.
ETA: Forgot that 2 of those miles are wet, dark Jemison Trail miles. I always pump the brakes through there but especially so when it’s dark. Then the beast of Beechwood Rd in front of Mnt Brook CC.

Ran the Big Easy Halloween Half this morning. Perfect weather. I was shooting for 10min/mile, but ended up right at 9:30. Crazy the amount of push you get from running with/against other people.

Way to go! Brisk this morning. Felt good.

3 miles this AM at an 8:10 pace. Reverse split today. Felt great out there.
1. 8:31
2. 8:05
3. 7:50
Won’t get many miles in this week due to a fishing tourney. Race season is here and I’m already signed up for four: 5K, 8K, 10K, and a half.

Ditto. 800s this morning for me. I can tell my fitness is headed in the right direction and I’m excited about it. I feel like this will be a good race season for me

Houston Half yesterday. Plan was to run a little faster than GMP and practice fueling. Didn't start out as cold as I expected but still weather was beautiful. Got caught in the pack early and found myself following the 1:40 pacer for the first couple miles. Then settled into some of my most consistent splits ever from miles 4-10 (7:56, 7:52, 7:52, 7:53, 7:53, 7:56, 7:53). Decided to get into the race a little at the end and finished around 7:30. Final time was 1:44 and felt great after. Re-built part of my fence later that afternoon and was able to walk the neighborhoods with the kids for Trick or Treat.
Fueling lessons learned:
Marten Gels are superior to all others in their ability to go down during a run.
I find there is a sweet spot for when I need to eat leading up to a race. It's somewhere between 60-90 mins before the race.

Well done, kballa. Looks like you were on autopilot for six miles.
What makes those gels so easy to get down? Is it their consistency?
I had an easy 15 miler Z2 bike yesterday and some sprint intervals this morning:
0.75 mi - 7:19 pace (7:32 goal)
0.75 mi - 7:10 pace
0.50 mi - 7:09 pace (7:24 goal)
0.50 mi - 7:04 pace
0.50 mi - 7:04 pace
0.50 mi - 7:02 pace
These were the toughest sprint intervals I've ever done, probably because there were a lot of them.
My weekend mileage is ramping up. I have a slow 14 miler planned on Saturday. Is it a good idea to toss in a few marathon pace miles at the end of my long runs just to test my legs? I'm thinking 14 miles total with the first nine at 9:54 and the last five at MP (9:09 or so). This was not called for in my plan, but I do not want to bonk.

T-alley
better question - do you feel confident if you run all your long runs at slow pace 9:54 then come race day you'll be able to run the full long distance at goal pace of 9:05?

No.
My goal pace for both of the half marathons I ran was 9:09, but I ran them both faster than that. The last one I ran was I think at 8:37 or somewhere around there.
For this reason, I'm thinking about lowering my pace goal throughout my training in the hopes if I struggle on raceday, I can still beat my goal time (4 hours even).

Thanks, it certainly felt that way.
To me it's the taste, or lack thereof. There is little, to no taste to them. The consistency is something you will have to get used to. It feels like a less thick Jell-O in your mouth, which was a surprise.

Where’s Burt? It’s race week. Is he still in hiding?
