I feel faster in tights; maybe it's the cooler weather that prompts them? #dunno

I’m the same way. Once it dips below 50, I’m all about the tights. I hate shorts when it gets too cold. Takes too long to warm up

I’ve never run in tights but you guys have me excited to try it. Do you wear shorts over?

No.

That’s like putting a hat on a hat.

I didn’t want to wear shorts, I was just worried about bulging.

In my janky setup I put my lightweight baselayer bottoms (Patagonia "long johns" I typically used for winter hiking) on first and then a pair of running shorts. The baselayer bottoms have an open fly, aren't windproof, and don't have pockets so the running shorts help shore up a couple of deficiencies.

Unless there's a cutting wind or sub-teen temps outside I tough out cold runs with only shorts. But I'm weird like that.

I do short shorts because mine are a base layer. I don’t have any long tights right now. Have thought about getting some though.

I just finished week 9/10 of my HM program. I have been doing some consistent runs of 10 miles or more with between 4 and 7 miles at pretty close to goal pace (6:50).

Today was my last long run before the TT, and I only did 4 miles at slightly faster than goal pace, but it didn't feel great and my HR was a solid 10-15 bpm higher than my ten miler earlier this week with a 6 mile race pace block. Other prior runs with longer distances at goal pace actually felt better.

I am debating whether I should back off the pace for the upcoming attempt or whether I should move it up from Sunday to earlier in the week when temperatures will be cooler. Thursday looks like it will be in the high 40s, which sounds pretty good to me.

That’s a really nice pace. Have you broken 1:30:00 for a HM before or is this the first attempt?

I’ve never really raced the HM, so I have not tried to break 90 minutes. Most of my races in the past have bee 800m to 8k. My current HM PR is probably from a training run.

I run at 5 am, so it doesn't really matter what I look like.

That's how I started and now I wear them in the middle of the day if it's cold. Bulge don't care.

I must say that I do have both base layer tights and running tights. Base layer tights (leggings may be a better word) are cheaper and in some cases are more of underwear. Those I will wear with shorts, but haven't touched them since getting good running tights.

I wear some windbreaker pants over them on brutally cold days with negative windchill. Other than that, a good pair of running leggings does the trick for me from 5 degrees to 40 degrees.

Ever since I switched shoes to Brooks, I've had some weird soreness in my right foot/ankle. Probably tendinitis.

Probably just coincidence, but I don't think I'll be going back to Brooks.

My running has been pretty consistent recently. Ran 5, 4 and 6 milers over the past week; all at about 8:30 pace and right at or just under 150 heart rate. Still having issues with calf stain but physical therapy to strengthen calves and back seems to be helping. He is also trying to change my running form as I am too upright, which makes the weak calves have to work harder. Hard to change my running form after all these years, but I think I am making progress. Hopefully 2021 will be relatively injury free and I will be able to race again.

Yeah. the headwind was killer, and that exit ramp at mile 24 is unpleasant. but overall a really good experience. thinking about LA but am gonna see how covid plays out before putting down money.
